This is true. Forcing people that 'don't want to/won't be a good' CFI to CFI is a bad idea. This whole idea that CFIing is the only way to build hours is flawed. It might be the easiest way to build hours, but when you have a whole bunch of CFI's that don't care about their jobs and are only doing it to build time the end result is a new crop of pilots that isn't up to par. Bad CFI's create bad pilots, it isn't fair to the students that are spending money, and it isn't good for this industry as a whole.

Short of limited survey work there are not many flying jobs for anyone with less than 135 ifr mins. The field is flooded with low time pilots looking for jobs and even ones with 800-1000 hours. Due to high volume of resume companies are raising their mins to thwart some of the flood. Unless you have a good connection somewhere your only choice is survey work or flight instruction. Even jump schools want 800-1000 hour pilots and survey companies are trending that direction too.
There is also a reason there are so many jobs posted with that magical 1500 hour mark that aren't regional. They are asking for regional qualified pilots at a significantly reduced pay. Their only hope is someone who is dead set on not going to the regionals or raising their pay to match.

There is no pilot shortage below 1500 hours. There is hiring, but it’s competitive.
Many of the olden days games still exist at the lower levels, and there are lots of pilots out there still willing to pay to play or work for nothing/next to nothing just to get those ATP mins.

Let me correct you, air Wisconsin Recruiter’s drool all over them, but the training department gets rid of them at a record rate. Take some time and head over to the AW pages and you will find that 20-40 percent don’t make it through training.

Their website says they're hiring f/o's. Mins are stated as 250tt. Are people actually getting calls with that time?
How was the phone interview? What questions did they ask? How did you prepare for the phone interview? Was it casual? Is there a gouge out there for the actual face to face interview? Anything one should study to prepare for the interview if called?

If you're interested, look at aviationinterviews.com and it's straight forward what you'll be asked. My suggestion is if you are extended a face-to-face, READ THE CONTRACT. They will give you the opportunity and take advantage of it. I declined the job offer because of the terms. There's far better ways to get to ATP mins than sign a contract and make less than $20,000/year in my mind.

All the pilots I speak of have a 100% rate of getting through training and are on the line currently

I had over 500TT when I interviewed with them. From the best I can tell, they look for guys over the 500 mark. Their contract is 24 months <500TT, 18 months 500-999, and 12 months >1,000TT. The folks there were nice and approachable, which kept things light during the interview.
