What's most appealing to 350+TT Pilots?
What's most appealing to 350+TT Pilots?
I'm recruiting for pilots with:
-previous commercial exp
-min 350 TT
-must have commercial cert w/ single & multi-instrument ratings
-must have a high-performance endorsement
What most appeals to such a candidate?
Where are the best places to recruit such candidates?
What most appeals to pilots with such credentials?

Time building (how much will I fly with your company).
Pay.
Benefits/ability to commute.
Pay.
What type of aircraft will I be flying?
Pay.

What do you consider a 100 hrs worth of “commercial experience”?
At that stage in the game:
- airplane type (SE or ME)
- hours flown/ month
- pay
In that order.
Understand that hrs flown x pay needs to make sense.
100 hrs/month @ $30/hr yes
20 hrs/month @ $150/hr no
Real world example:
Former student fell into a Part 91 G-V (!) SIC job right after Commercial ME.
Turns out he’s in a golden cage as he’s salaried.
Flies 40-100 hrs a year so that’s at least 12 years to 1500 hrs.
Would have been much better off flightinstructing to 1500 hrs.
He’s stuck, not enough hours to go anywhere else and he’s a late starter/ career changer so he’s rapidly running out of time.
Or was rather.

Appeal:
Solid, consistent flight time. Commutable, negotiate the rotations. Decent equipment.
Recruiting:
This or any of the other major sites. Local/regional FBOs and schools. Honestly, you post a job with mins <500TT you'll probably get overwhelmed in short order.
Personally, being on stand-by for charter in a fancy jet to get 10-hours a month is not nearly as appealing as 80-100 hours a month in a Cessna flying picto or a Navajo moving boxes (or vice versa). Not everybody is timebuilding for the airlines, some folks just like to fly.

When I had 300 hours, the things I found most appealing were flight under powerlines, aphid infestations, the smell of pesticide, anything with a tailwheel, and girls from small towns.
Which of those are you offering?

QUALITY OF LIFE: Prospective schedule so one can plan their lives in advance. No BS sitting around the FBO all day.
NO BS FROM RECRUITER OR MGT. Have integrity, be straight forward and dont BS the newbies.
HONEST MX.: Ensure the aircraft are safe to fly. No pencil whipping the Mx Logbooks.

Hours and a little a bit of pay, at this stage in a pilots career they should only care about building hours safely. Other than that you should pay a liviable wage and have some form of per diem/ housing if you want to attract candidates from outside your area. Remember, if you don’t offer housing or per-diem you limit yourself in canidates as most pilots at 350 hours won’t have enough money to move for a short term hour building job
