Part time mil pilot looking for work (580TT)
Hey all,
Been on the job hunt for about 7 months. Applied to over 50 different positions, got a lead for a job in the Midwest, but would require relocation for pay at around 35k salaried. I live in the western Pacific area near a major airport and I'm willing to commute for long (2 weeks on/off etc) schedules. I've had a reasonably difficult time finding a job on this side of the US. Im still part time in the military as a fixed wing pilot, and have 280 Pic, 460 turbine multi, and 65 instrument.
Any one have recommendations? The aircraft I fly doesn't accumulate a lot of hours per year (around 175-200), and considering I'm part time I'm very interested in a job that would allow me to fly more and continue to progress in my career. I've been using 4 different job search sites, 2 of which are paid subscriptions.
Thanks in advanced. Not looking for handouts, but any leads are appreciated.

Have you thought about getting CFI? It opens a lot of doors. Try networking by hanging around the FBOs and handing out business cards. I’m sure you’re using ClimbTo350.
I’m in a similar boat, my wife and I relocated for her active duty military job. I was at 230TT and absolutely no one was hiring within an hour radius. Banner tow was the only option. But I had CFI so I’ve been instructing. Although I’m instructing at the 4th flight school in 6 months, I’m finally getting steady hours and I’m at 520TT. I live 2.2 hours away at a crash pad I found during the week.
Good luck to you.

Why don't you just break out the credit card and pay for those 170 and head where you really want to go? What's your goals anyways?

Most likely progress to a major carrier. 170 at 100 an hour minimum is 17k...not worth going into debt over. It's pretty much pay to play or CFI unless I can find a gig that allows me to sit right seat in something for a year or so which would be ideal.

If you find legally loggable time in an aircraft I certainly hope that person/operator doesn’t just let you ‘sit right seat’, but rather works you like a primary student!

If you just want to work that I'd look at jav imagery, Sandhills aviation, skylens, Aspen Helicopters and such for an aerial survey position.
