Low Time overseas

I'll have my multi-comm add on soon. Have CFI, CFII and 420TT, but am young and seeking adventure. Any companies out there that hire low time guys to fly overseas, Africa or else where? Wiling to do almost any type of flying.

The only thing dangerous about Africa is the chief pilot giving you alcohol poisoning in efforts to see how well you 'fit in' with the guys. That is sort of a joke, Africa is dangerous in many parts, but the places hiring expat low-timers are all pretty safe (Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Kenya).

Maun, Botswana is by far the best place to start as a 250TT commercial guy. Just be warned, there are probably about 30-40 guys in your exact same position all begging for a job there right now. Its tough times!

For better info on Africa, go to pprune.org, but like here, its uber-competitive. I think we all just have to sit back and wait for better times to be honest.

What type of flying would you be doing in Botswana? I have spent a few months in Eastern Africa and the flying there looked pretty interesting. They were flying 206's twotters and Let410 all over the sarengetti and even out to Nairobi. Where can you find the actual info on the aircraft operators?

I don't have anything yet. I just want to start applying though, seeing what companies hire low time pilots.

Well not many hire low time pilots, thats a tough reality right now. I am too nervous to head to Africa personally. I have heard too many negative and intense stories to take the chance. Good luck

I think you'll be able to find better information at pprune.org. I don't think there are many Africa based pilots around these boards. That being said, crazy opportunities exist. My business partner's friend who graduated from Purdue get a job flying SIC in a Gulfstream 550 with only 700 hours total time. Sure, the job was in Abu Dhabi, but I bet he is one of the only...if not the only 22 year old getting paid to fly a G550. Keep on doing what you're doing, stay active in your search and try to network so when opportunities like this pop up, you will know about it and be poised to take advantage of them. Best of luck to you!
