Anyone got any ideas how to get 50 hrs twin time at a reasonable price...?

Find somebody with a Cam-air.

Actually that is an Air Cam, check with the Sea Plane Association.

Go find a PBY and let me know where it is.

In all seriousness, you'll have a hard time finding 50 hours. These aircraft are not as plentiful as C-152s. Think of the MES aircraft out there: The Grummans, Air Cams, Twin Bees, DHC-6 on Floats and the occasional BE18, PA23 or DC3 on floats. The least expensive one to operate is the Air Cam, but if my memory serves me, they are experimental amateur built which means you can not rent it unless the owner has an LOA from the FAA. Which further reduces the availability of them.

Please report back with what you find, I'm curious to see how you accomplish that.

Ah ha !! Just a thought on above now, I hold CFI ratings...DOH!! So after getting current again............... Hmmmm.

Also you don't really need to 'rent' as such. Flying the plane (ie. sole manipulator, for non CFI's) along with the owner also counts...

There is a guy in California with a beautifully restored one also, he flew it to Oshkosh last year.

For the OP, I wish you luck in the adventure. The reason I ask is that I was lucky enough to take the ATP ASEL/ASES/AMEL/AMES checkrides before the new rule. So I am curious to see how you'll satisfy the new requirements. That is all, not trying to be sarcastic or Debbie Downer about it.
