Someone mentioned in earlier posts something along the lines of "single engine over water, that's not safe..." What is your view on this please?

So since there's someone in here (captain) that already got called....I'm guessing most of the January class could be captains, maybe some F/O that are not part of the forum....

So February/March classes here we go

It is what it is. Just always know what the winds are doing so you know where to turn when the engine goes quiet. Also remember that sometimes landing offshore is better then landing at the bottom of a Molokai cliff or Kona volcanic rock. Good luck to all that applied !

Default Just wait for it

Its very much a waiting game guys just hold out. I put in an app in September 2015. Nothing came of it so i went ahead and got my CFI. Then got a call around April 16'. Also we have a sort of hiring boom around the same time every year just because thats when everyone from last year either moves on or upgrades. So if you really want it just hold out until Feb-March. From what I see we're due for some movement.

Depends.

ME is safer than SE if flown by pro pilots, but statistically is more dangerous with inexperienced pilots (Vmc risk of ME outweighs off-airport landing risk of SE).

A turbine SE plane is far less likely to experience an engine failure, but if it does the stall speed (and therefore touchdown speed) will be higher than in a light piston plane so the odds of surviving the ditching are lower. A ditching in typical light piston ASEL should always be survivable if done right.

A professionally flown turbine ASEL is most likely safer than a private pilot flown piston AMEL, even over water.

And sometimes water is a better place to land than terrain, I'd prefer water over a low altitude engine failure in a congested urban area (to say nothing of mountains at night).

The pilots I know there seem to really enjoy it! Has 350 hours been a strict requirement lately for SIC?
