Transitioning From Light Singles to CJ1

Hi all,
I am 19 years old, 500 hours with commercial multi instrument. I currently fly skydivers in a 182. Our close family friend just purchased a CJ1 and has an experienced pilot with an MEI flying it single pilot. The owner said I can fly with him all I want and wants me to eventually fly it single pilot and take over for the current pilot who is getting old. Realistically, how long will this take and what is the process like? Should I go to get the type rating now and will I be able to log PIC once I do so? If we are flying say 100-200 hours a year, how long will it take to meet the insurance requirements?

Let your friend pay for your type rating if he wants you to fly it...

Pure guess, but my guess is insurance won't even consider covering you until your at least 1000-1500hrs PIC and that is if he is willing to pay the high premiums you will cost him. More realistically, you could be looking at 2000+ hours.

I would take the dual received and then like I said, let him pay for the type. You can only log PIC if you are typed in it.

Is the owner or the insurance going to allow you PIC in the CJ1 without having an ATP rating?
You need to be 23 before you can get that.
