Seasonal Job Ending
 
Hello. I am a 550 hour commercial ASEL pilot. I am instrument rated and current. I am doing aerial photography of farms, and that will be ending in about two weeks. I am looking for a job. I will work anywhere in the US as long as the pay is enough to support myself. I am single with no children, so moving or lengthy deployments are not an issue. I don't have any CFI rating yet, because I don't have the money to train for it. I have applications in all over the place, but I am open to any and all suggestions. Thank you!

Go to Alaska! Hageland or Yute Air are both hiring! Grant if your desperate. Make 4 grand in your 15 days on up here. They pay for housing up here so if your single and broke you can technically live here and work your a** off and make a killing!

Thank you for the insight! I appreciate it. Any chance you can post or PM the links for me? I was looking at Hageland before, but I couldn't find out where to apply. I always got redirected to Ravn, and I don't have my ME rating yet. And a person can seriously make that much money? I need 1100 a month to support the bills I have now.

And I am single with no children. The only commitment I have is my national guard drill once a month in Wisconsin.

Also, how are the safety records of the companies you mentioned? My current gig is aerial photography of farms at 500 feet AGL. It's single pilot ops, and using a hand held camera. It obviously has its risks. I mention that because I'm not opposed to high risk flying, but at the same time I'm not trying to kill myself to reach 1500 hours. I have a friend who flew up in AK for a while and recently he posted a couple articles of people losing their lives up there. So it brings the thought to mind. That's all. Thanks again!

I go to Alaska every Summer for seasonal work. I bring home plenty to get through the winter with and then some. I do CFIing is SoCal through the winter. But beware. Flying in Alaska can be addicting and you may not want to do anything else.

As for Hageland, just send a resume to Ravn and it will get to the right place. Mention Hageland in your cover letter.

I will find links when I get a sec! As far as all the accidents up here don't even worry about it. The maintenance is actually really good and all the accidents are guys with years of experience. I knew most of the recent guys and can't speak on what happened but they were good pilots who ended up in places they shouldn't be. Stay within your set limits and it's really not that bad. The new runways up here are seriously bigger than the ones I learned on back home so it's not as much of a bush pilot world anymore. Also the old mentality of always fly and never check w&b or weather is gone! All those old guys are dead or retired. It's an awesome young pilot group up here and we all wanna go home safe. No need to push it and there are set minimums for everything anyway now. I had the same worry before I came up but now that I'm here it's actually pretty neat. Plus Alaska time is awesome on a resume. Most of the guys leaving here skip regional and go LCC or good air ambulance and corporate. 2 guys left last month 1 on a Learjet and 1 JetBlue. As far as income it's all up to how much you work. I've flown my 8 hours everyday this shift and we still canceled flights. So there is plenty of work. Our hourly pay rate is more than a regional f/o so some guys come up here and stay. But put in your time here and move on. Hope this helps I was completely clueless before I came up here.
One thing to consider is hageland makes you jump seat CASS all the way to Alaska(it sucks believe me)while grant and yute air pay for your ticket round trip and you get miles.

Thank you both for your inputs. I owe ya both a beer. I'll make it two if I get hired somewhere. 3 if I survive til I hit 1500. The friend I mentioned, mentioned flying over max gross, flying tail heavy, taking off into 0/0, and having a chief pilot physically throw a guy out the door to go fly. He did his time in the 2000s though. So that's where my reservations were. Definitely not trying to kill myself, so your input is much welcomed. Also. I'm assuming the CASS/buying a ticket is just to get to the state/interview? Do they have any kind of travel/pass/CASS benefits for employees? Like I said. I have my National Guard drill in Wisconsin, so it would be nice not having to buy a round trip ticket every month.

Also. My guy said the schedules were 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Does that still hold true?

It's 15on/off! No they pay your ticket up and back every shift. The cass guys have to use their off time to jump seat up and back home. Every one will interview and hire over the phone you won't come up here. You get a class date then come up. You will pay for your first ticket up here. Then once you pass your 135 PIC check ride they pay for everything
