It’s not as tough of a sell as one would think looking at the big picture. Look at the number of folks that Piedmont loses every year. Each one of those pilots should be feeding to AA, and isn’t. They’ve loosing between 10-17 pilots a month for the past year+ (numbers put out by management), 6 of which are flows. That’s A LOT of pilots not going to AA when AA needs them to be long term. AAs hiring construct revolves around the WO being able to feed the AA pipeline. As mainlines hiring needs increase, the WOs need to be able to increase flow.
Look where Piedmont is hemorrhaging the most. Pilots under 3 years on property, who were told a 5 year flow during their recruitment only to find out that it’s actually a 7-9 year flow for them once they get access to the seniority list and are able to do the math. Hiring needs at mainline start being greater than 1000 people in 2020.
PSA and Envoy both got flow increases in the last two years.

But the whole argument you are making hinges on AA hurting for pilots. They are far from hurting to fill classes and could probably care less that their regionals are losing guys. I believe the only time they will bat an eye at that is if their regionals cancel flying due to staffing. If the regional metal moves, then the rest doesn't matter
What he said.
There is a practically endless supply of OTS, that AA meters with the flow. Not enough flow, and the carrot isn’t real and you won’t be able to staff WO. Too many flows and the the WO bleed dry.
The unions have about as much “negotiating power” with pay than they do with flow. AA runs it all, and the market is what they make decisions off of. The only way we get more flow or pay, is if non-WO gets more and AA needs the WO to remain competitive.
The flow isn’t there to help staff AA. It is there to allow the WO to get away with lower pay and QOL (which squeezes more pay out of the same folks) than other competing regionals.

Why would PDT increase flow??
To echo what others have said it’s not about staffing AA. That can be done with OTS in short order. It’s about keeping regional planes staffed on the B scale.
It’s Mind over Matter. They don’t mind and you don’t matter. Gosh I crack me up.

PSA has a perfectly adequate electronic program that Piedmont could implement but chooses not to because it won’t decrease staffing costs.
The 4hr modified min day is really the biggest issue with the Piedmont schedules because it gives company zero incentives to schedule effectively.
4.25hr min day would give min 12 days off which the company shot down during the last TA negotiation session because the estimated it would cost $1mil more per year in staffing costs.
The way things are, 2 days off is even a lucky break these days. Lots of schedules have less than 24hrs off between trips provided they build in 24hrs off in 7 days so the company will string together two trips to make 6 days of work in a row.
PBS requires giving up vacation and other conflict bidding. Complete non starter with senior union members. That’s 50-60 more days a year they would have to work. With 4hr modified min day PBS will make everyone work 19 days a month to get 75hrs. Since there’s no rigs to speak of, The loss of conflict bidding will make more folks available to fly 75hrs @ 11 days off to fill schedule needs, taking away premium flying opportunities and placing anyone left over on reserves thus reducing overall manning needs and costs to the company.

The company is only willing to fix what’s “broke.” Not realizing that the breakage is a symptom of a different problem.
It’s like buying new tires, when the tires are wearing out prematurely because you never ever bought new shock absorbers.

I mean, to be brutally honest, all Management seems to care about is our aircraft door being closed "on time" so that they can report to big daddy AA how amazing their operation is ....all the while crew morale is **** simply because of poor QOL stemming from abysmal schedules and utilization of modern technology and sometimes knee-jerk, **** poor, decisions made by crew scheduling.
