Interview test

Any insight on the interview written? Im doing the Shepard Study for the interview but was unable to find any insight on how difficult this test was for others that have taken it.

Just wanted some insight on how difficult it is or anything in particular you recommend to focus on.

Study ShepAir. That’s about all I can say. About 80% of the questions come from it, but it’s a paper test, multiple choice. The other 20% of questions are random knowledge things that are hard to study for. I thought it was more difficult than advertised, and I studied hard. Good luck.

In addition to Sheppard I also used https://www.aviationinterviews.com

I found it helped me for my preparation.

Agreed on this. Oh and know all your Metar stuff I think there was one or two written things but I know that is a big part of the oral interview. decode a METAR from hell....

Interview

The Written portion is almost entirely out of the Sheppard Air study guide. Call them and get the app and you’ll do fine.

Then you will have a oral exam, covering the METARS already discussed. She asked me questions about Fuel reserves, when weather goes below minimums, and bottle to throttle policies, among others. I can get you a study guide if you contact me directly.

Then, there were the “soft skill” questions:

What would you do with an unruly passenger, how to you feel about having a CA who is 23, what do you know about our schedule and how often you are away from home, etc. They are very friendly and aren’t looking to trap you in any questions. Just be honest, think of the safest answer, and try to consider Customer Service whenever possible.

25 multiple choice.

Russdfly 04-24-2018 08:23 AM

Does PDT have a sim eval during interview process? If so, any info would be great. Thx.

No sim eval. Written and interview only.

Was hoping to get a little gouge for the pdt interview, I called sheppard air but they said that their test no longer current with the pdt test, would it make sense to just memorize the test anyway or has it changed that drastically. Thanks

Must have been a very recent change. Did you check aviationinterviews yet for updated gouges?

Thanks for the reply no I have not yet.

flysooner9 07-20-2018 04:40 PM

Did the recruiters not tell you anything? When I interviewed in April they sent an email with topics to study.

Thanks for the reply, I was just on the phone with Sheppard again. They said that the feedback they are getting saying that the test has changed in the last couple weeks it looks like.

Recruiters send a reply basically study the ATP test, I was just on the phone with Sheppard and they are saying the test may have changed in the last couple weeks it looks like.

Valkyrie 07-27-2018 05:49 PM

Preparing for the written, was told it has changed in the last couple weeks, anyone have any info on this. Does they let you use a calculator on the weight and balance problems if there are any? Thanks

Legends13 08-22-2018 05:56 AM

There were no math questions. Basically FARs, basic aerodynamics, and a few other things. Study 121 specific regs. The Sheppard interview prep is NOT the correct prep. PDT specifically told me to use the Sheppard ATP course.

They are taking a chance, as with any regional. I did when I came...no jets no flow...and it turned out mostly great. #TheGambler

flysooner9 08-22-2018 11:07 AM

Maybe they’re just interested in collecting an extra paycheck while home working their current job. Double dipping.

We've have had a handful stay and leave without paying back bonuses...

chopperleo 08-22-2018 12:58 PM

If you are in the last 6 months of your 2 years, will the company chase the pro rated amount? Can they screw you legally for that?

Yes and no.. promissory notes have been upheld and dismissed in several states.

Basically it's very costly for a company to go to court and found out.. i assume Maryland law would govern. And at the end of the day if your found liable you may owe legal fees...

Than again pdt has so many problems going after someone for money should be the last thing on their mind.

aviatore 08-27-2018 02:40 PM

For those who are interested, after just speaking to Sheppard Air they informed me that there's miscommunication going on and that the official database to study from is the AIP course (airline interview prep) not the ATP. I cannot confirm if this is correct or not since I haven't taken the test yet, if anybody would like to fill me in on that I'd appreciate it.

Just curious why on Earth you would apply here??? If you want a PHL or CLT base go to PSA.

Flow, PHL, and from what hear people still hate PSA and they are looked down on in the industry because of the stunt they pulled a few years back. Also I am already typed in the 170 so it'd be an easy transition.

convince me why PSA is better..i honestly don't know anyone there so ill admit my judgements about them are strictly from people who talk about it, not first hand experience from personal friends.

Mike5250 09-28-2018 11:41 PM

Studied Sheppard air interview prep for a few days and passed. Slightly modified answer choices and no math questions as mentioned above.

Captains that have been at Piedmont for 30 years are getting 11 days off. FOs with less than a year at PSA are getting 18 days off. Almost no one at PSA still actually voted for that contract, and it is definitely arguable that their flow is faster at this point.
