I’m a CFI right now, and I’m getting a job at a pilot mill to speed up my hours. I should be at ATP mins in about 13 months or so. I noticed the school i’ll be working at when I move is a partner with PDT. I’m just wondering if the cadet program is worth it or not. Ideally, my #1 choice for the regionals is PSA, but I think it’s good to also have back up plans. So I was thinking of doing the PDT cadet program as a backup Incase for some reason PSA doesn’t hire me when the time comes.

Any opinions?
Don’t do a Piedmont Cadet program if you don’t want to come to Piedmont.

PSA is hiring and that should be your first choice between the two. PSA leaps and bounds ahead of Piedmont in pay and QOL.

I ran into some pilots from PSA and their rumor is that when they get PBS, their flow will match ours in percentages per month. When PSA’s flow matches ours in speed, PDT won’t be worth a wooden nickel.

Oh I know, that’s why I said PSA is my #1 choice. But I also know that sometimes things don’t always work out as we want. I really hope PSA will hire me, but who knows. Maybe when I apply, maybe another applicant will have a better resume than me and take my spot. That’s why I like to have backup plans

That backup plan should be Republic before Piedmont. Their cadet program is hiring and so is AWAC and Skywest. All three offer better cadet perks than Piedmont does.

At Piedmont you’ll work 60-90 more days a year for $15-20k less than PSA flying smaller and older equipment for almost 10 years before you flow to AA.

Depending on where you want to live the following companies offer better pay or work rules/quality of life items, or both, over Piedmont:

Endeavor
Republic
Skywest
Expressjet
PSA
Envoy

If you can get on with any of those, do it. Piedmont should be about your #6 choice for a backup plan the way things currently are (maybe #3 or 4 depending on where you live).
