Cadet Program

Hi,

I just want to say thank you for the advice regarding this question. I currently work for Piedmont in another department which has helped me pay for my flight training.
Would you recommend applying for the Cadet Program? I appreciate all advice regarding training.

With thanks!

If you're looking for a regional to fly for, I highly recommend not choosing Piedmont.

What makes you say that? Would you say PSA is a much better choice? The reason I'm asking is I am in a somewhat similar position as the Thread Starter, in low time, in flight training and want to end up at AAL. I have heard that AAL will only take pilot's from WO's and Mil, also heard of the opposite and am not sure what to believe nor how to find it out. Also, do you know what's up with the pay scale being unavailable on Airline Pilot Central? Thanks for the help.

You are more likely to get “hired” by AA by going to a non-WO. I would go to a WO if you want to get hired by United or Delta. The flow through is merely an insurance policy for current new hires. It would be faster for you to get some 121 time, get hired at an LCC, and then apply to AA then wait for the flow to happen.

I was recently in training and AA Mgmt made a presentation. So far this year, 17% of new hires are flows. They expect by the end of 2022 that 20% are flows, 10% are hired WO pilots, 30% are military, and 40% are other airlines

Piedmont definitely has the easiest cadet program - you can build your hours anywhere that is conveinent. I didn't want to be locked in to a specific school or specific area. The increase in cadet money to $30,000 is good too.

Piedmont has exceptional cadets. Glad you had a good experience.

How about high school and college GPA? High 3s? Trying to prepare best as I can and appreciate any advice.

Breathing and a pulse… Piedmont is so hard up to staff that AA has given some of its routes to busses because it can’t staff the flying that it’s been assigned, consistently since 2019. Piedmont started parking planes for staffing in 2020 before the pandemic took care of the problem. Now that demand is up Piedmont is hemorrhaging pilots. Anyone who meets minimum qualifications will get a solid look.

Not sure if this is true for everyone but in my class seniority was determined by a push-up contest and a timed sudoku puzzle

Which one was weighted greater? Did they award extra points for hazing?
