Piedmont or Mesaba?
 

Yesterday I interviewed with Piedmont and was offered a position as first officer immediately after the interview and a class date for Aug 13. About an hour after I was offered a position with Mesaba on Aug 27 for the Saab. This is obviously nice to have a choice but now I have to weigh the ups and downs and see where I want to go. Any advice or input would be great.

Mesaba = new airplanes, possible growth, definite flow into NWA.

Piedmont = old airplanes, no growth, no upgrades, continual downsizing since 2001, no flow to US Airways.

how was the Piedmont interview??? I have mine next week, and would like to know what the test is. I just took my ATP written 3 days ago, so will i be ok with studying that??? Also, how was the TEch and HR??? Congrats to you on both. Both comapnies have their positives and negatives....best of luck!

I would recommend looking at the bases available at each and choosing where you would like to live. Commuting is OK for a short time, but over the long run it can really make an OK job turn into misery.

I don't really know anything about Piedmont. Mesaba has a lot of potential for growth and upgrades, and if you get hired in the front of the wave (which you are) it can be good for getting quick FO seniority which can make your schedules very nice (14-18 days off), and give you a shot at a reasonable upgrade (1-3 years).

Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed in this biz until after it has already happened.

I'm at Piedmont, and my roommate just went to Mesaba, so I kind of know both sides here...I'd go with Mesaba. Mesaba has a simliarly good contract/pay, but they're growing and have an upgrade, PDT doesn't. The only reason I can see for picking PDT over Mesaba is if you really wanted one of our bases. Even PDT's anticipated flowthru doesn't help, since Mesaba has already essentially secured theirs with NWA. Just my opinion though.

Go where life will be better for you.

If I had to choose, it'd be a no brainer - Mesaba.

Oh, and the flow through?? Don't count on it.

Mesaba, but like everyone else said, many other things can come into the decision

You have experience with Mesaba and their new flow through agreement?

No really, I saw the flow-thru agreement in writing actually; they do have it...
