Piedmont Reserve Times?

Just got an offer from Piedmont, with an anticipated class date in July-August (I'm thinking August). Can you guys give me an update on current reserve times? Also, how much are you flying while on reserve? Thanks for the info

I spoke with a new PDT F/O based in SBY who told me he was on reserve for a grand-total of 2 weeks before he got his first line. I can tell you that most of the guys in EWN are around 4 months reserve currently - but it also looks like attrition is slowing too.

I don't work at PDT but they were up at my alma mater recently recruiting/interviewing students that hadn't yet even graduated, and I believe several were offered FO positions contigent on getting their Comm ME tickets. So I would imagine the mins aren't very high at all.

They have 300tt/50 multi on their website.

there are I believe 5 schools that they lower their "minimums" for...Daniel Webster College, ERAU, UND, Purdue, and Spartan (don't know if that's actually a college though). That's what I was told by the HR department.

but it seems like we have no minimums anymore from what I heard, I did hear about us going to DWC and hiring guys right from the flight program, kinda f-ed up, but from what the training department told me on my last CQ, dwc guys do very well in our training, so coming from there holds a lot of weight here, so that's probably why we went there...on the other hand, I've heard of ERAU guys having trouble recently cuz of their primary training on glass

250 TT / 25 ME for UND grads

Are piedmonts dash 8s steam gauges or do they have some glass as far as the attitude indicator and HSI?

mjarosz 04-21-2008 02:22 PM

Depends on the equipment. All of the 100's are steam except for the VSI (TCAS overlay.) Some of the 300's have glass HSI and ADIs.

Piedmont guys, what type of headsets do you use? I'm in the market for a new one and looking for recommendations that work well with the Dash, thanks in advance.

Headsets are all about personal preference. Alot of guys use the Telex 750. I still use my Sennheiser's cause they have noise canceling. Only problem is alot of the old guys don't like to use the intercom so they become kinda useless plus they go through batteries kinda quickly ( I finally got smart and bought some rechargeable). I think if I were to buy a new headset I would look at the Telex 850- noise canceling without batteries. Definitely spend the money though to get something with noise canceling cause the Dash is quiet but your hearing is more valuable.

Haha, thats funny. We've got like 5 or 6 -300 models with a nifty glass Attitude and HSI indicators. If you want a fancy plane go to PSA.

I use the company headset. It's free.

captnskyhawk 04-23-2008 03:48 PM

Yeah but my current headset is crap and I'm gonna buy a new one anyway, so I wanted to hear what worked well in the turboprops

MU2P 04-23-2008 04:45 PM

It's not that loud in cruse. Some don't use a headset at all. Shhh, the FOM says you can only take tham off at FL180 and above. It's funny to see the old guys clamp on DCs all day.

Go ahead and spend money, but the company headset works just fine fyi

I use the Telex 850 in the dash. I'm big on protecting my hearing for the long haul. In the -300's it's not really necessary, but I'm sure the -100's can wear down your hearing over the years. The 850 is nice because it has noice cancelling without batteries. For the captains who don't use the interphone, I can often hear them even with both ears on; for the quite talkers I just uncover the left ear and all is well.
