He's referring to some of the mathematics in the recent US Airways Financial report...some things didn't add up when it came to the Dash 8 so people on this particular forum were speculating that Piedmont must be losing Dash 8's. That's all it really was too was pure speculation by armchair airline executives, lol...

I would think Mesa would be losing the Dash flying. There are 11 Dashes to be lost. Mesa operates 11 Dashes. The contract says US Airways can cut the Dash flyin givin 180 days notice. The Dashes are not to come out till 4Q of this year. All this info can be found through other threads on THIS forum. However I have been wrong before. Just saying the numbers match up.

6 Ochos For Cactus...
We actually operate a total of 16 Dash 8/200s ...6 total for the US Airways regional feed out of PHX/GJT. US Airway's annual report shows a decrease from 61 Dash 8s to 55, net loss of 6, hence the rumor that those 6 will come out of PHX, all Mesa Dash 8s. This airplane was built for hot/high ops, Mesa was the launch customer (First to Fly the Q200) and this plane is ideally suited for many of the higher-alt. airports serviced out of PHX...someone had already posted all of this in a previous thread. 4 of the 6 Dash 8s are "HA" birds, originally Henson Aviation, then Piedmont, we acquired them from Piedmont about 5 yrs. ago.
With a decrease in demand and an airplane that I think is well-sized for many of the markets it services out of PHX, I find it hard to believe that US Airways would get rid of this aircraft. I do find it peculiar that the drawdown is 6 Dash 8s as this does correlate w/ our fleet size. Perhaps both sides may see a reduction? The Dash used to have pretty good dispatch reliability when compared to our jets, I still wonder if that's the case. It's not like Airways is going to shed the Dash for a CRJ on these flights...they're already trying to downsize the CRJ 200s. I wonder what will happen? Definitely a big deal for our crews in PHX who have been operating that aircraft out of there for quite some time.
