Piedmont to buy Mesa??

I heard this today. Supposedly there will be an announcement tomorrow.
I have no supporting evidence that this it true but the theory seems plausible.

DENpilot 01-13-2011 04:20 PM

You heard this where? Until there is an announcement, I don't believe it.

Gets the foot in more so on USairways.. :) Who knows these days....

Airfix 01-13-2011 04:22 PM

From what really is an unreliable source which is why I'm fishing for something more reliable.

Lone Palm 01-13-2011 04:26 PM

It's the deals you don't hear about that are the true ones.

Airfix 01-13-2011 04:33 PM

I'm a dumb *as. Title should read Piedmont. For some idiotic reason I wrote pinnacle. Mods can you fix?

piper338 01-13-2011 04:39 PM

If you meant PDT then I highly doubt it... they are taking over the Mesa ground ops in PHX... but as far as flying I highly doubt it... being wholly owned PDT buying Mesa would be Us Airways buying Mesa and it would cost Airways more to operate the current flights than what they are paying Mesa.

From Airliner.net

Earlier today Mesa Airlines informed their employees that they will discontinue passenger service and ground
handling operations in PHX, effective April 6. Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways, will
assume the PHX US Airways Express passenger service and ground handling operations.

Piedmont will extend job offers to approximately 350 Mesa employees in good standing. The remaining 13 field stations with direct US Airways Express service from PHX will participate in a competitive bid process, which will include Piedmont, to determine who will handle passenger service and ground operations. All stations will transition from Mesa to the new handler by June 2011.

With this move Piedmont will now manage US Airways Express passenger service and ground handling operations in all three hubs; CLT, PHL and PHX.

Field stations up for ground handling bid
Bakersfield, Calif. (BFL) (3 average daily departures)
Durango, Colo. (DRO) (2)
Des Moines, Iowa (DSM) (2)
Fresno, Calif. (FAT) (5)
Flagstaff, Ariz. (FLG) (6)
Guadalajara, Mexico (GDL) (1)
Grand Junction, Colo. (GJT) (3)
Guaymas, Mexico (GYM) (1)
Hermosillo, Mexico (HMO) (1)
Monterey, Calif. (MRY) (2)
Palm Springs, Calif. (PSP) (6)
Santa Barbara, Calif. (SBA) (5)
San Luis Obispo, Calif. (SBP) (2)
Yuma, Ariz. (YUM) (6)

So thats ground ops only?

willflyforcash 01-13-2011 04:49 PM

Eagle is gonna buy RAH?

;)

Airfix 01-13-2011 04:53 PM

I see Mav204 got to the bottom of it. I told you the source was not reliable. The ground ops must be what it is about.

dashrash 01-13-2011 05:07 PM

This isn't flame bait but it really is a shame PDT is taking over the ground ops cause they do an awful job at it in every station I have flown into with it.

I love generalized comments like this. As a former ramp service employee of one of the companies in my list below, I consider myself much more conscious of ramp service than many of my coworkers. That being said, I still have a very hard time trying to differentiate between the quality of service provided by Piedmont, Regional Elite, GAT, DAL Global Services, ASIG, Landmark Aviation, Westchester County NY, or any of the other outsourced providers used in the industry.

Yes.

PDT Can take over the MESA PHX ground ops because PDT will staff it with new-hires at minimum wage.

PDT Can not take over the MESA PHX flight ops because PDT could only staff that with 30 year Captains and 10 year FOs.

But hey its cool tho because those people making 12 bucks an hour at Mesa will be given a chance to interview at PDT for 8 bucks an hour

stoki 01-13-2011 05:41 PM

I heard Piedmont is buying USAirways.

Nope, you heard wrong, Piedmont is about to attempt a hostile takeover of Delta. You heard it here 1st.

Releasemaster 01-13-2011 08:41 PM

Ok kids,

Here's the real deal. Pending the approval of Mesa's Plan of reorganization by the bankruptcy court, Peidmont will take over ground handeling at all Mesa run stations. Even if there is a bid for the outstations it will be more of a formality as PDT will end up running them.

The hearing to accept or reject the POR is tommorow and if not aproved by the 17th US is free to walk from this proposed agreement.
