Shaner,
It is amazing that you know everything about every airline. I hear you are an expert on skyway airlines as well, as your posts on that thread indicate. You must be double dipping on both sides I guess. Please give me your knowledge about pinnacle, horizon, TSA, Whiskey, mesaba, mesa, and possibly if you have time, any 135 carriers, it would be blessing also to hear about SWA if you have time. Please dont overwhelm yourself though, I know it hard to share infinite knowledge, but there are alot of us out there who no nothing about anything, hook it up brotha

sigep_nm 10-30-2006 11:34 PM

Oh, I forgot to mention skywest as well, learn me some knowledge please

Stay tuned frat boy....I'll fill you in.

FloatGeek 10-31-2006 08:01 AM

Yes Mustang...UND grad. You too? Any info on the interview? I can't wait...I would love to fly for Piedmont.

DMBinHBurg 10-31-2006 09:27 AM

Does anyone know what realistic mins Piedmont would interview someone with? How about 1000TT and 50 Multi?

CTPILOT 10-31-2006 09:36 AM

I have heard rumors that Piedmont will hire way below published mins if you come from a certain universities, can anyone clarify that, I heard from other people but trying to find out if this is true?. Thanks

MustangFa1con 10-31-2006 09:59 AM

Float,
I'm a DWC guy...I just work with someone who's friend from UND got the same interview day as me....wonder if its you he was talking about...he's a fellow instrucot at Webster

Let's see here SigEp, not sure what post(s) you're referring to exactly, but I have flown for both PDT and Whiskey. Therefore, I have a little bit of insight into both. In regards to Skyway, the only post of mine that mentioned them was in regards to Wisconsin's potential pickup of Midwest Airlines' regional flying. That's it. Sorry you have zero experience of your own yet, college boy. Maybe someday you will. If you've got anything more you'd like to cry about, bring it.

Not a colleg boy, but thanks for the complement. Sounds to me like you are jumper bouncing from one airline to the next. Cant hack it or are you just one of those scumbags that screws everyone over for your own personal gain.

From the looks and sounds of your posts, I'd highly doubt you'd have a chance in hell of getting past Skywests first round of tests. Therefore, I'll spare you the info.

piedmont bases

How commutable are piedmonts bases? Which is best, which is worst?

thanks!

MustangFa1con 11-01-2006 06:33 AM

From all I've been reading, it sounds like not very.

Famos_Amos 11-01-2006 06:38 AM

does piedmont use a training contract? if so, what are the terms?

Shaner77 11-01-2006 07:03 AM

There are pilots that commute to every base, so it's not impossible. Hard to say which bases are "best", as it depends on what you prefer, and if commuting it would depend on how commutable it is. Roanoke, VA, Syracuse, and Laguardia seem to be the most commutable right now. The most senior bases are Roanoke (for the commuting reason) & Harrisburg, though that title changes rather frequently with retirements continuing at a pretty good pace....

racers2207 11-01-2006 07:31 AM

Harrisburg is very junior for FOs. Only senior for Captains and FAs.

Shaner77 11-01-2006 09:29 AM

MDT is junior now? Good to know. What base would you say is the most senior FO base now?

Amos,
No Contract (deja vu)....in fact, a lot of guys leave their first year after getting their multi-turbine-121 expereince and move on to jets (not a bad deal when the alternative would be waiting that same ammount of time CFI'ing and having nothing to show except for maybe 100 hours of multi-piston and less than 1000TT)...but also, the pay is much better than comparable regionals, so it wouldn't be to bad to stay with Piedmont if need be...
but is there anyone else out there that works at Piedmont that can confirm whay I've said....

FloatGeek 11-01-2006 09:31 AM

N261ND, did you get an interview also?

DASH8AV8R 11-01-2006 09:43 AM

Hey Mustang!! Are you studying for the interview?
You are correct in saying that people come here instead of instructing.
We just lost another bunch of FO's in KMDT too chq/Shuttle. And i do agree with your comment on PDT not being a bad place to stay. Unless you need a jet to inflate your ego. Paid more to fly slower!!:D

My thoughts Exactly-
And yes, I've been studying very hard (although its tough when the test is so broad in scope, and changes from what I hear). Anyone else out there interviewing the 9th?

Question:
Do you know for sure if they're hiring into a pool or if there is a class coming up?

Thanks again!

DASH8AV8R 11-01-2006 11:02 AM

PDT we do not have a pool when you get hired you will also be told when the next class dates are!!
And don't freak out . I look forward to flying with you in the near future. What base would be your first choice?

Thanks, that’s good to know!

Actually, I would be very happy with any of the bases Piedmont has, but preferably one that had a short reserve time
...as long as it meant I could move out of NH finally!
LGA would be great (but probably too expensive to live there) so I’d probably say Salisbury.
Have any opinions about any base in particular?

racers2207 11-01-2006 11:57 AM

Without actually putting forth the effort to look at the seniority list for each base, I would say that Syracuse and New Bern are probably the most senior FO bases. Or I guess I should say that those are probably the bases where you would sit reserve the longest as a new hire right now. But who knows, next month it could be completely different.

DASH8AV8R 11-01-2006 11:59 AM

I am KSBY based . And yes it would be cheaper than KLGA i also know that the reserve FO's in Ksby fly quite alot because we go both north and south out of there. I drive 3hours to KSBY. But it is not a bad base i also know of one other FO that commutes to NH.
Take it easy . If you reply it will be next week before i get back to you i have 2 two day trips and an out'n'back . But like i said before best of luck in the interview.;)

If you want to build flying experience, the Dash-8 is not an airplane for you. Go to Mesa and fly an RJ that takes little to no skill to fly. Believe me, you will get in much deeper over your head on a visual approach from 2 miles out at 4000' than you will flying IMC to mins in a little jet. The top half of the Piedmont seniority list consists of 50 to 60 yr-old captains who have flown the Dash 7 & Dash 8 their whole careers-- out of choice. I know you have a lot to learn, but if your dream is to fly a fancy little RJ, start with that. Piedmont guys never make life easy for those looking to laterally move to an RJ-flying regional.

Yes, I am a low time rook, no doubt. At the same time, I dont want to fly an RJ. Call me crazy, I want the job of flying a turboprop, ripping around in the soup all the time. If I fly an RJ, so be it. But personally, I'm following the dream for a slot at a friends company flying 757/767 on international charters. They say they prefer prop driver time instead of RJ autopilot fliers.

Not trying to come down on you, just want to make sure you don't let an over confident new-hire attitude make things hard for you. We've all been there, and most good pilots have a confident air about them. The old guys can be real d**ks when they think you feel that you "deserve" to be at a higher level than you are. I can't tell you how many captains I heard rip apart newer FO's strictly due to their attitude. Come in humble, learn while you're there, and have fun livin' "the dream". Haha....or be real with yourself and get to work on your MBA!

Anyone know when they are interviewing for the January class? I was in the pool and I just timed out. Thanks

When did you interview?...How was the interview?...Did they say that there was a class coming up, and if so, when?

Thanks

FloatGeek 11-04-2006 05:04 PM

Hey Laxrox,

Can you shoot me an e-mail? I dont have the ability to PM.

[email protected]

Thanks!

Laxrox43 11-04-2006 06:29 PM

I interviewed in early August...was put in the pool. I got my times up, called the CP and was told that I "timed out" and would have to interview for the Jan. class (which is TBD).

Poop!
Lax

DMBinHBurg 11-05-2006 06:56 AM

Laxrox,
What kind of times do you have? Are you at a school such as UND or Riddle? I heard unless you go to Riddle, UND, Purdue, you have to have 1500TT 500Multi. If you go to one of the above schools, it's only 600TT, 100Multi. Anyone else heard this at PDT? Just curious how strict they are with the 1500TT/500Multi if not coming from one of those schools.

Laxrox43 11-05-2006 10:03 AM

DMBinHBurg,

PM me if you can.

Lax

DMBinHBurg 11-05-2006 04:18 PM

Laxrox,
I can't, don't have 25 posts yet. Would you mind emailing me at [email protected] Thanks!

check6 11-06-2006 06:37 PM

Ha!! I did the Piedmont thing for 6 months based in Harrisburg. I was one of 4 that ended up there from my class and now two of us are gone, and the other two are looking for new jobs. Keep in mind this is after 6 months!! It's not that any of us have shiny jet syndrome. . .it's because at Piedmont there is no future right now. I left Piedmont to go fly a Dash 8 for a different company closer to home. . .go figure. I've been in Ground school for two weeks and it is a world of difference.

At Piedmont, the rift between the Allegheny side and the Piedmont side still exists believe it or not. You'd hardly know it if you were based in SBY.

MustangFa1con 11-06-2006 07:21 PM

Where did the other person end up and where are the others looking to go, and why?

DMBinHBurg 11-06-2006 07:35 PM

Check,
Do you mind explaining more? I always thought Piedmont would be a good place to work. Are things really that bad? You say no future, you mean they might be going out? Or managment is really bad?

DASH8AV8R 11-07-2006 07:03 AM

Check6 you are so full of **** (enjoy freedom, scab).
Based in KSBY we are fully aware of the rift between PDT/ALG.
6 MONTHS , and you quit you have a lot to learn Everyone thinks PDT is going to vanish sad truth is we make money and sugar mommy AWA likes that!!!

MustangFa1con 11-07-2006 07:25 AM

Anyone have any last-minute advice before I fly out tomorrow for the interview on Thurs?

DASH8AV8R 11-07-2006 07:34 AM

Best of luck !!;)

You were obviously just one of the many low-low time FO's that felt they deserved to be somewhere "better" after a few hundred hours in the Dash 8. Sounds like you were one of the jokes that took off to fly for Freedom (Mesa), with the expectation of getting a quick upgrade. Good luck with that. Don't let your immense lack of experience get anyone killed, alright?

As for a future at Piedmont, I'm not sure what your expectation was. No, 787's won't be joining the fleet any time soon but the company's not going anywhere. Mainline makes a killing from Piedmont.
