Default Special Issuance for Medical

Anyone have any experience with having a special Issuance and whether it is a hindrance getting hired at a Major?

You should have no issues. As long as you had hold the FAA medical.
Special Issuance is not listed on the medical other than (usually) a statement “ not valid for any class after XX/XX/XXXX.”

Thank you, had heard Delta did not hire anyone with a special issuance.

I know AA does, hired me with one , albeit 17 years ago. It’s a good topic to talk about at the interview

Default Special Issunance

I had a minor stroke in April of 2016 while a new hire at ExpressJet. They just put me on LOA until the FAA approves my medical. Unfortunately the FAA has a 2 year wait for any type of stroke, but hopefully I will be going back to work soon. With the need for pilots at most every regional now days, I don't think you would have any problems.

SI will not be an issue if you have a 1st Class.

Almost certainly true in the past, but you'll likely see little to none of that these days.

Legally, I think it's now to the point where all they can do is give you 1C exam to verify your eligibility.

For all the grief the FAA gets about the medical process, it's really amazing how so many pilots are able to fly today having issues which would have grounded them in the past. There are many pilots flying on SIs and though it can be a pain sometimes, it really is a testament to how well the FAA and medical community are working together to keep people flying.
