Default Recommended Psychiatrists for 6 months HIMS

Hello all,

I am looking for recommendations for psychiatrists for the "every 6 months monitoring" under the HIMS program. I've been cleared by a HIMS Psychiatrist and passed the cogscreen, now I just need to establish the every 6 month monitoring psychiatrist. This was for anxiety-related counseling I had 10 years ago that the FAA collected alot of paperwork on. I'm working closely with an AME who specializes in the SI's for this type of thing but am looking for recommendations on the psychiatrist.

I'm located in Omaha, NE but would travel anywhere every 6 months for a "pilot friendly" psychiatrist who doesn't entirely rely on meds unless absolutely needed and also understands the FAA...

Not sure who to rely on around Omaha for this type of thing as most don't seem to have any knowledge or experience dealing with the FAA and I don't want to lose the progress I've made with the approvals.

Thank you!

I gotta marvel at a government that can get upset about a person RESPONSIBLY seeking counseling to deal with stress related issues and hounding him about it for years while it totally ignored 35+ warnings (including two to the FBI) that a kid is about to shoot up a school, even after he posted a video on the Internet IN HIS OWN NAME saying that he was going to do it.

Just saying....

Hope you find a rational shrink who can convince the FAA that enough is enough.

Our HIMS committee thought it best to stick with the psychiatrist who initially “cleared” the pilot for return to duty, on the theory that every handoff carries some risk of a fumble. If that doc is not available, ask your HIMS AME for a recommendation. As Medical Sponsor, he or she must approve the choice anyway.

As of a couple years ago, the FAA EXPECTED that you'd stay with the same AME and Psychiatrist during your HIMS Monitoring period. They expressly didn't want pilots "doctor shopping."

I will have to contact the HIMS psychiatrist evaluator... For some reason they made it sound like the evaluator and follow up person needed to be different. Thank you for the insight and replies. Still searching for someone decent in Denver and Chicago area, if anyone knows someone good - please let me know.
