First of all, get a FAA Form 8500-7, Report of Eye Evaluation, from your AME and have your ophthalmologist fill it out. Better yet just download it yourself.

https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/...m%208500-7.pdf

AMEs, even senior AMEs come in all flavors. Many simply aren't interested in putting in the time and effort necessary to pursue a SODA unfortunately.

So get your treating ophthalmologist to fill out the form and then call up your regional FSDO and ask for an appointment with your regional flight surgeon. Go in and see the man (or woman) with the 8500-7 in hand. It is remotely possible that with that and your previous exam on file the regional flight surgeon will have enough to set you up for a flight eval but far more likely he/she will wind up referring you back to another AME, one who actually cares, if it appears like you might qualify for a flight eval and a waiver.

Good luck.

Was just passing through and signed up to hopefully offer some assistance. I am a class 2 (UK) medical holder and was refused a class 1 on the basis that I have amblyopia. I gave up and continue flying as a hobby... However, there is new hope!
Look up "VividVision" its a treatment for amblyopia in adults. I went for my first session last week and I hope to bring my eyes up to standard and get the class 1 medical. Good Luck!
