Past use of antidepressants.

I talked to a middle age man, and a freind, about continuing a flying career. I asked him a brief health history ( I am a health provider) to see if anything would DQ him from flying.
He said after his father died and then several years later his mother died, both of cancer, he took Fluoxetine /Prozac for a few months. That was a couple years ago and he has not taken it for 8-9 months. I told him to take it up with his AME.

From what I read if you have been off of it for 6 months and his PCP gives him a clean bill he should be ok. Or will the FAA make him go see a psychologist and run him threw a bunch of tests?

Has anyone had a any experience with this?

Brief reactive depressions are generally considered normal. A good AME coukd probably clear this with OKC with a phone call if he had documentation from the event.

Or depending on the circumstances and availability of documentation, just issue:

Bereavement;

Dysthymic; or

Minor Depression All Submit all pertinent medical information and clinical status report If stable, resolved, no associated disturbance of thought, no recurrent episodes, and;

a). psychotropic medication(s) used for less than 6 months and discontinued for at least 3 months - Issue

b). No use of psychotropic medication(s) - Issue

Otherwise - Requires FAA Decision
