Default Back issues

How do you handle herniated discs, spinal stenosis, lumbar or cervical problems?

Have you ever tried the DRX-9000 spinal decompression therapy?

I have a herniated L4-L5 and bulging L5-S1 with spinal stenosis, have been doing the machine and it has helped. No steroid shot yet and no surgery.
Also had a nerve ablation done last year.
St work I try to not twist too much and take a bathroom break or get up from my seat at least once every our.
I am pretty young and have just recently learned how common back problems are among pilots.

1.) Do core exercises religiously
2.) Lose weight if you need too
3.) Don't be afraid of cortisone shots, they reduce chronic inflammation that will irritate the nerve. I had a nerve ablation and it did not work as well as a cortisone shot.
4. Be very careful how you lift, I mean seriously think about technique every time you bend or lift.
5.) Good luck, back pain can be an ongoing Battle.

I'm definitely considering the cortisone shot just so I can get running again.

1,2,4 worked great for me. Also posture while seated. Back was a little beat up from the military, but no major structural malfunctions so with proper care and feeding I'm about as good as new.

If I get lazy and start slouching on the seat, it will talk to me a little to remind me to sit up straight.

I think almost everyone with have issues with age if you don't take pro-active physical fitness measures at some point after age 30-40. All those little muscles will atrophy with age, leaving your back structurally sloppy. Beer gut won't help at all.

After years of seeing a chiropractor who kept me going. My L5-S1 finally went one day watching the NFL at home. After a MRI it did not look good. I went to the top Nerosureon in my city and had a Microdiscectomy. Four years later not one problem. Golf, gym, flying all normal. I was offered shots but the jelly was out of my disc. Overall happy I had the procedure.
