Default Gilbert's Syndrome

Wondering if anyone has had experience with Gilbert's Syndrome and obtaining an FAA class I medical? Gilbert's is when an enzyme is missing to break down bilirubin in the liver. No ill effect other than at high levels may cause jaundice but no treatment required.

That should have no effect on your pilot performance, but an AME may want or need a detailed analysis before issuing a medical.

If you have (or can find) a good, helpful AME you could just reach out to them for clarification before you schedule an exam.

Or contact an aviation medicine consulting service, they will able to guide you down the proper path, for a fee.

Bonus: Elevated bilirubin may protect against cardio-vascular disease.
