deferred medical wait. How long?

For those of you who had your medical certificate deferred to the FAA...

How long was your wait?

Did you required additional medical documentation after that, if so how much longer was that?

I saw an AME 4 months and 2 weeks ago, he wanted me to provide a letter from my specialist (neurology). That doctor needed MRI's to prove my case in this letter. Between visits and the MRI testing I spent 2 months. It have been over 11 weeks now since all the documents were submitted and the suspense is KILLING me.:(

I've heard it could take awhile, but as long as your info good, it'll be worth the wait. Good luck!!!

4-6 months at times.

Just like the military...hurry up and wait.

Best of luck...it's a royal pain in the butt.

Thanks for the input and support.

I hope after all this time it will be positive news only..

Call 405-954-4821 and inquire, do it once a week about 3-4 times, FAA will put you in "interested airmen" category, it speeds things up.

100% correct. Keep calling them until they know you by first name. Depends on work load they have, but yeah 4-6 months

And remember be nice on the phone.

Thanks luniew
I just called the FAA and it turn out that they had sent a letter which I never got, with the wrong zipcode.

The bad news is that they are looking for copies of ALL medical records. Some from 1989 when I was originally hospitalized, which I have not had any luck in getting from the hospital.

Keep your fingers crossed for me... I'll keep fighting till I get it or get denied.

Make THEM tell you absolutely not...don't give up. It's frustrating (trust me I know)...but aviation is your passion, and don't settle for anything less than your medical.

If you guys are AOPA members, use their medical assistance program. I had a couple students that had issues with obtaining a medical and they felt that this program helped. They deal with Oklahoma City on a daily basis and can provide an wealth of knowledge. I think this alone would be well worth the $39 membership fee.
