Ambien

I recently did my Physical and the AME told me that Ambien is now approved for airmen as long as there is 24 hours between last dose and any flight duties.

I can't find anything on the FAA site - has anyone else heard this?

fedupbusdriver 11-02-2007 10:27 AM

My AME said the same except that there was no time limit.

NYCPilot 11-02-2007 10:48 AM

Wow. You can really use this stuff?

Kikuchiyo 11-03-2007 04:49 AM

Does the time limit between usage and flying depend on the dosage? Ambien comes in the original 10 mg dose, but now also in a 5 mg dose, and the AmbienCR (controlled release) variant.

Although this is not officially from the FAA, these guys have a pretty good reputation....

Sleep-inducing medications

In the Air Force it's only 6 hours but we can not use the CR stuff...other sleep meds like restoril and lunesta are 12 hours DNIF...I use the ambien about once every 6-10 weeks and it works like a champ.

I thought I heard that the other one, Lunetsa?, has a shorter perioed. 12 hours I thought.

Military's all different...in FAA-land we can't use go-pills either

Just got a prescription from my Doc. They said you can't use it 24 hours before a flight. Also Ambien CR is not allowed.

ChinsFive 11-27-2007 05:58 PM

Yeah, I'll use it from time to time (read: less than once a month) for those times when I have an overnight where I got up late that day and have to be up early the next morning.
