Flying with Nyquil

How long do you have to wait after taking nyquil before you fly? Does anyone have anything they would recommend for taking at night for being congested that won't keep you awake. Something OK to fly after taking.

I think thats a question for a doctor....I think ALPA has someone you can talk to about those types of questions

Claritin works for me... when I'm not flying of course.. :D I'm not sure it's approved or not.

Just found an FAA bulletin for AME's that says if any over the counter medications have side effects that could have an effect your job duties that you should wait double the time required for dosage. So if you would take nyquil every 4 to 6 hours, then you should wait 12 hours before flying. Makes sense, as long as you aren't talking about narcotics, or other more serious meds. Some meds like Hydrocodone (Vicodin) my AME says you need to wait 48 hours before flying.

My doc has recommended Tylenol PM to me....he says you're good to take it up to 8 hours before you're back on the flight deck....

My AME told me about Claritin, and it is apporved. Remember, it is for allergies, not a cold medicine. In spring, the pollen drives me crazy, and claratin does the trick.
