Fat Bastard Weight Loss Challenge part II.
We had a good thread going over the span of a couple years. Lots of encouragement and a lot of fun. Rather than bring that one back from the dead I decided to start a new one. Here's the challenge, lose weight. Watching "Biggest Loser" hasn't hurt either.
Post your starting weight, the method being used to lose the weight, and how long you've been at it. Me, I started at 200lbs. In the last "fat bastard" thread I was at 220. So far, I've been eating better, and replacing the soda with water. Also started playing indoor soccer once a week in a neighborhood fun league. That was easy to do while on furlough. I'm down to 195 and have lost about an inch off my waist and my legs are much leaner from the running. Once back at work next month (yay) I'm going to do a little more running rather than sitting on my butt at the crashpad and utilize the workout rooms at hotels for at least 30 minutes. Once back in my preferred base I'll probably get a gym membership and hit the gym while waiting for a call on reserve. The goal is 175, the weight I raced bicycles at a few years ago. While still a bit high for my height (5'7") I have a very long torso and a wide frame. I can't get much below that without resorting to unhealthy means like not eating. Best of luck to all. Hopefully this thread lasts as long as the last one! |
Alright, 215 is the start. Not too fat at 6'1" but I've got some padding. So far I've stopped drinking soda replacing that with either water or unsweetened iced tea. I've gone off of fast food :( and am cutting back on portions and trying to eat healthier. Also no mas on the chips :(. For now the exercising is running. Alot. Maybe some strength training in a few weeks. This is gonna be painful.

Sounds like a plan. Starting at 187 to start, finally able to get up and move around again. The goal remains 155.
I'm thinking of donating unimportant body parts, continued beating on a treadmill, and occasionally walking on said treadmill to get to level 5 on a fitness test. |
Can I go the opposite direction? :) I'd like to gain another 20#. I'm starting at 215# and would like to end at 235#.

Glad to see somebody picked up on this, 5 months after I started the thread :)
Just went to get my medical renewed. I'm still at 190, however I've lost 2 inches off my waist and my pants now fall off without a belt. My blood pressure was also quite a bit lower. Really need to stop drinking the soda but at 1 a day I'm thinking it's better than dealing with the headache I get from lack of caffeen or lack of high fructose syrup (don't know which it is). I had a lapse in packing food due to living situation changes but now that I'm settled in a new crashpad I can get back on my routine. I'm actually a little proud of the running. I still don't like doing it, but I am. My knees don't like it at all but I went and spent a little more than I should on a pair of Asics from a store that specializes in running gear. They checked my stride, looked at my old shoes to figure out my step and picked out some options. I liked these the best and haven't been dissapointed. I figure I have about 40 miles on them after a couple months. Two weeks ago on an overnight in DEN I ran for 25 minutes (couldn't do more than about 5 when I started) which I thought was pretty good for a flat-lander. I really haven't done any recording of distance but a couple nights later the wx was bad so I jumped on the treadmill in the hotel and decided I wouldn't stop until I hit 3 miles. It ended up taking about that much time. I honestly can't remember ever running more than 1 mile in my life. Amazing how I can go for a 25 mile bike ride without thinking twice about it but running kicks my butt so bad. Runner's World: Running Shoes, Marathon Training, Racing They have some really good resources. I might implement a one of the training programs in the beginners section. I hope you guys keep up with this, the encouragement from the last thread was fantastic. Hopefully this one has the same results. Keep posting! |
Just came across this thread...started a diet/exercise program about 4 months ago. Started at 257, currently 225. (i'm 5'10 so I was a fat bastard for sure)
Plan has been to eat healthy, small portions, more often. Strength training MWF and doing some form of cardio T and TH. So far so good! |
Not too much more I can add here - all good advice.
I lost a lot of weight (30#) really fast (2.5 months). It can be done. Just not pleasant if you get burned out on grilled chicken and lots of water. Really, it's just basic math...burn more than you consume. I'm almost 6'4" and weigh 198...just where I want to be, but it's a constant struggle, or the weight will come back if I start to cheat. I exercise a lot, repeat, a lot, 5 days a week. No running - don't want to f up my knees...stationary bike 45 mins, ellipitical 30 mins, 45 mins of heavy weights everytime I go to the gym. All in all, no fun, but I'm happy to be in better shape than when I was in high school. Good job and good luck to you all. |
Ok here we go. 10 months of furlough has resulted in 13 extra pounds. I was about 5 heavy to begin with. SO I have 18 pounds to go. I don't eat bad or anything, I am just extremely inactive. Just started going back to the gym this week. Goal is 158-160 with 13% body fat (I'm 5'11")exactly where I was my last year of college. Last time I was at this exact same start weight and body fat percentage it took 8 months of hard work to get to my goal. Time to start again.
I hear ya about the chicken. I try to mix it up by marinating it in different fruits before I grill it. 2 parts Orange, 1 part lime, 1 part lemon, garlic and oregano is a good base for Cuban Mojo if you get tired of the norm. Also try putting blended mango in with the chicken. I normally eat tuna about the same amount that I eat chicken. Not to much you can do with a can of tuna. :p |
Tuna straight from the can...mmmm. Mix up your diets with fish like halibut and salmon. High in protein and high in good fats. Good fats help you burn the bad fats, as well as help your heart, brain, etc.
Has anyone tried an ECA (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) stack? It's legal and no problems with flying (two separate AMEs have bought off on it). You can get your caffeine fix and avoid the refined sugars in soda. I am extremely alert on an ECA stack. My reflexes are faster, too. You'll burn fat off faster, but because of that, you sweat like a ***** in church. Something to think about. |
i just started the p90x. half price on ebay so i pulled the trigger.
ill let you guys know in three months if im ripping phone books in half. |
