medical card question

I am getting ready to start my student pilot training. Which class of medical card should i get? What does the exam consist of? - I am going to be going to ATP next fall to work toward becoming a Regional Piolt.

Normally, students start out with a third class medical. It doubles as a student pilot certificate. Then as you become Commercial/CFI you normally get either a 2nd or 1st class, which are usually more expensive. The doctor who I go to makes it pretty quick and painless. Quick eye exam, blood pressure reading, checks your pulse... then it's off to his desk to fill out the paperwork. Nothing major. And if you're over 41 (I think.. correct me if I'm wrong) you need an EKG.

If you have aspirations of professional flying, get a first class to see it you can. No use starting down the path if you can not qualify. (You will though, it is not that hard)

Get the first class to insure you meet the standards. The yellow student license/medical can be issued for any class of certificate.

What if my eyes are bad...I mean, they are corrected to 20/20, but without contacts they are real bad (thinkin 20/2000?) :D Can I get a first class, because if I can't I will take that money I have saved up for flight school and buy a nice car with it and a plan a career as something else (not that I want to, but it would be a consolation prize - I desperately want to fly).

If you are correctable to 20/20 in both eyes for distant vision and your near vision is correctable to 20/40 you can get a Frist Class medical. Go for it!!:)

Dont worry... you will be fine if you are corrected to 20/20... If they didnt allow that, many cockpits would be empty!!!

You will get it at the end of your visit, if you pass. Just make sure you don't walk out with a medical marijuana card.

It is important to not hide anything from the FAA. This seems to get more new pilots into trouble than actual medical issues, at least judging from the content of forums like this.

Google FAA form 8500-8, which is the FAA medical form. Make sure that you understand what they are asking and how you are going to answer. If you run into any speed bumps talk to the Medical Examiner ahead of time or contact one of the aviation medical advisory services and pay a small fee for their guidance.

The actual application is now completed online at medexpress.faa.gov, usually a day or two before your medical.

This is not hard, and you do not have to tell them anything that they do not ask about. But you do have to answer their questions accurately.

Also assuming you're fairly young...I would ask the doc (or your eye doc) to verify that you correct to slightly better than 20/20 (say 20/17 or 20/15)...you probably do. That way you know you'll have a little margin as you age.

Whenever his employee number comes up on his employer’s roulette wheel.

Or if you show up for work stoned and with enough burgers and milk shakes for everyone, but they are all really just for you.

What day did you go? That is the date it was issued. In case you have forgotten when you went the certificate has a block, "Date of Examination."
