First Class with a special issuance?

Can I get a First Class Medical with a special issuance? I have just been issued my first time special issuance second class medical. Prior to this, I had a First Class Medical. My AME told me just to apply for a second class medical. I didn't ask him if I would be eligible for a First Class. I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I was informed today that I would need a first class for a job that I am interested in.

Yes, you can. You have to be cleared by the Medical Appeals office out of OKC or Wash. DC., and the AME who clears you for the 1st class medical under the special issuance program.

If I were you, I'd contact the AME that you just visited and ask him or her exactly what is the process that you must follow in order to be awarded the 1st class medical under SI program.

Yes - you can get a 1st class with a SI.

Dr. Sheren called me back about an hour ago. He anticipates a couple of weeks on the outside to get this togetherl He really knows how to get things done. I am soooo happy to have him as a friend and as a doctor!
