ankle surgery

I partail/fully tore a tendon in my right foot. I am possible looking at surgery as i havent had my first oppointment with the surgeon yet. Just looking for advise from fellow aviators on how this will effect my medical. In theory I should return to walking within 8 week according to my research. However with surgery you are never as good as you originally were.

I've never had any reconstructive surgeries like you're looking at so I'm no expert... but... I don't think "you are never as good as you originally were" is an accurate blanket statement. I know many surgeries are equal to or even stronger than original.

I wouldn't worry about it effecting your medical in the long-term. You'll do the surgery and rehab and probably do a demonstrated ability test with the AME - or whatever it's called. I've got a buddy who was t-boned while riding a motorcycle and he had several reconstructive surgeries and he's back flying. He was pretty messed up so it took a while to regain strength which slowed down the FAA process but he's back. Yours isn't anywhere near what he had so I wouldn't worry about it.

My right leg was demolished from the knee down, 7 operations and three years later it didn't effect my medical at all. The doc just poked and prodded a bit but it was no biggie.
