Ord Ame
Can anyone recommend a good AME in Chicago. Anywhere is cool, but preferably the NW suburbs. I moved here last year and the 1 time that I went to an examiner out here he had me remove my shirt and pants to check for "tattoos" or "identifying marks" and then tried to make me turn and cough.... I'm now scared of this guy.

If you are willing to drive to the SW Burbs I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Woodward out in Aurora. I just did a 1st Class and it only cost me 80. No cough test, no tat checks. I have my students go see him, so if you are willing to drive its a painless experience. Check out his number on the FAA AME list. Good luck.

Dr. Ostrom in Elgin.

Go to the AME whose office is at ORD in terminal 2.
I don't know his name but I know a few of our guys go to him and say he what you want from an AME. |
I recommend Dr. Anthony Kitslaar. Have been going to him for 2 years now. He has two locations - one is the UIC Medical Clinic inside Terminal 2 at ORD, and the other is a small office in Geneva. His availability is great and answers phone calls very quickly. Exam is very quick and straightforward - he does a lot of business for UAL guys.
Cell phone is 630-302-3336 or Anthony W. Kitlsaar, MD • Homepage |

BUMP
Seeing as it's been four years... any recommendations/updates for Chicago-area AMEs? Preferably near ORD. Thanks! |
Dr. Ostrom is a pilot and a good professional pilot's AME.

Old thread but I'd also suggest Dr Gilberto Munoz in Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago!!

Gilberto Munoz
Just got a card in the mail from Munoz. Says he does first, second and third class as well as Special Issuance. Has anyone been to him and will recommend? I'm moving to Lakeview soon.

A good friend of mine uses Dr David spindel AME in Evanston. I was also referred to Kitslaar.
I need to get my medical done and I was going to get a 1st class to make sure I could pass it. Another friend recommended Dr Geoffrey Kuhlman in Bolingbrook. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Bit of a Necro reply but I just saw Dr Gilberto Munoz the other day and he is definitely a pilot friendly AME that I would recommend!

Anything other than Kitslaar inside ORD is the wrong response. That dude will have you in and out in five minutes.

This. Kitslaar is far and away the best AME you could see at ORD. Even the drive to his Geneva office isn’t bad and you’ll be in and out at the most 15 minutes.
My regular doc will be out of town, and I need to see another AME. Browsing through this thread, I see lots of good recommendations, and Kitslaar's name is one of the most recommended ones. I will try to book an appointment with Dr. Kitslaar, but before I go there I was wondering if any of you who have been going to Dr. Kitslaar remember if he uses the machine for checking vision or does the wall chart? Any idea which color plates he uses too? I am used to the old wall chart, and I get a bit nervous when I need to deal with unfamiliar procedures. Thanks jr |

Thanks jr The doc can use a paper eye chart if the machine is not cooperating. |
Bumping this thread. After years of seeing Dr Kitslaar, he has closed the ORD office (real bummer for ORD-based pilots). As much as I like the guy, I don't think I'm willing to make the drive to Geneva so can anyone recommend an AME closer in to the city? I've heard of Dr Munoz in Lincoln Park, any one used him recently and care to comment?

Follow Up...
Saw Dr. Munoz last week and it was great. Fairly quick, nice guy, inexpensive. Very pro pilot. Likes to talk, so be ready for that if you're in a rush. Someone up thread said he doesn't do Class 1 medicals, that is false. Class 1s and sounded proactive about dealing with special issues (I don't have any so can't speak to it directly, but his website touts it and he mentioned it in conversation). He will definitely be my new doc in Chicago.
