Ok guys and gals,
I am directing this to those of you who have run marathons in the past.
My wife and I have made a hobby out of running marathons together. Have any of you had negative affects flying long haul? I mean being an active person and sitting in a seat for that long must be tough on the body, especially when you fly for 10+ hours straight!
I used to fly freight, and leading an active lifestyle worked for me. My goal is long haul flying. Just wondering how it has worked out for those who have been there and done it?
Cheers!

Plenty of airline folks do marathons and Tri's. I don't have too many problems if I workout immediately before flying, I just have to cool down and stretch very thoroughly afterwards to avoid having hip/upper leg muscles tighten up and get stiff. I try to finish my workouts a couple hours before getting in the saddle, that works best.
Being in good shape will reduce risk of back pain due to sitting. The out of shape folks are always complaining about that, and sticking pillows and blankets on their seats. I did have to plus up my core routine when I started flying the CRJ...that thing has notoriously bad seats.
As far as detrimental effects... I know one guy who ran an ultra, and his body ran out of fat and started burning muscle somewhere along the line. The muscles or tissues in his eyes were affected, and he went from 20/20 to 20/400 in a few hours. Fortunately he can still correct to 20/20 with coke bottles.
Other than bizarre things like that, exercise is all upside.
