Ahh, it's so sad for me... I can't tell the difference for the VSPI (VAPI?) lights during the day....

I can tell when it is white/white and white/red, but when it is red/red it still looks white/white

It's been a while since I first posted this thread, so I just wanted to give everyone an update!

On August 23, 2012, I was able to pass my PPL Checkride and become a Private Pilot!

However, I still have not attempted to contact the FSDO and take the color vision light gun test...out of fear that I might fail mostly...

The airline pilot dream is still burning brightly, and I hope to work on my instrument rating soon!

So borrow a handheld radio, call the tower (on the phone first is what I'd recommend) and take the light-gun test without the FAA there. Decide for yourself!

Do it at a class D airport that isn't very busy.

Yep, gotta go to KFTY... The control tower at KPDK has very dark tinted windows so last time I tried, they were like, "It might be hard to see, we never use this thing and we have tinted windows."

I couldn't even see a light LOL...

You may have better luck at RYY or even LZU. during the day on a weekday RYY can be pretty slow at times plus you could probably drive up and do it by phone in the parking lot.

Also have you looked into talking with an AME that does a lot of special issuance medicals? Dr. Forred over at Jet Careers forum could give you some good guidance plus he has almost all the acceptable color tests that the FAA allows. He is in AZ but you could head out there and take all the tests and see if you can pass any of them.

That's true, but FTY is where, I believe, the Atlanta FSDO does the light gun test.

Also, I believe I will go to Dr. Forred in the near future to see if I can pass any of the color tests.

Thanks!
