I figured I would make everyone aware of something I came across recently with the FAA and my records in Oklahoma City. I requested copies of everything the FAA has on file for me, which is not much (3rd Class, 2nd Class, written and practical from private). In the process of requesting these records, Oklahoma City contacted me to advise me that I needed to sign for my records. I was told this was due to HIPAA and having a DUI and or being required to attend a rehabilitation program. I almost laughed when I was told this over the phone. I have never had a DUI charge or attended any type of rehabilitation. I had my drivers license revoked at the age of 20 (Georgia Law, if under 21 and going 25 or more mph over the posted speed, automatic license revocation for 6 months) for going 60 in a 35. This required me to report it under block 18(v) on FAA Form 8500-8. Oklahoma City coded it in their files as a DUI and or attendance of a rehabilitation program. They said it would be corrected and I have yet to see. I would have never known this had I not requested my file(s). I'm sure people have been turned away by potential employers over mistakes made by the FAA that they are not aware of. I requested my records because I needed a copy of my written results for my private. Just thought I would share this.
