Timeline for FAA disposition

I have an extremely common back issue, where one of the bones is a little displaced (bones not discs). There is really nothing they can do for it, and i've likely had this for life. I've been flying in the AF for years w/no issue. I've talked w/AOPA medical and done a bit of research and all this to say no one thinks this will be a big deal w/the FAA. I'm stationed in Asia and the FAA AME says he's going to need the FAA to approve this. Although i think he's wrong I obviously can't change his mind. What does a typical, if there is such a thing, timeline for an FAA ruling on a class 1 take? How will i be notified when approved?

thanks.

If the FAA gets everything they need (the first time), then maybe 4-8 weeks. You will be notified by letter.

If the FAA requests additional information, the clock resets.

Talk to AOPA before your AME submits paperwork to make sure all are in agreement that FAA gets everything they need.

Hopefully your AME should know what he/she can issue or must defer to FAA.

I've discussed w/AOPA and they did give me a laundry list of stuff. They said it doesn't need to be disposed w/the FAA. I even sent the AOPA email to the Dr office. The problem is I'm overseas and I think they're sticking to their guns. Booking a ticket to get back to the states, and reworking this issue seems crazy. I can't see the FAA having an issue w/this. I'm pretty frustrated, but I'm between a rock and a hard place. The 4-8 wk wait is about the timeline for me to get back to 'Murica, not including the cost. It's a pretty bogus situation to be in.

being overseas is the problem ... hopefully a US based AME will be able to issue.

For anyone searching this in the future. I had no need to go to the FAA w/the issue. I presented the Dr. w/all the medical info and we discussed w/the AME guide said about my "condition". After the exam he was happy w/the results and issued in his office!
