Yes. 100%. Get a referral. I know for a fact that there are people that have benefited greatly from a referral. There are a few people on here that help you get an interview, help you prepare for it, and help you get ready for class.
As far as the crashpad comment - I haven't heard that. I really hope that is true. That would be a bonus for the pilot group.

So the answer is no? $250 hotel Rembursement can't be used for Crashpads.

I have heard of people waiting until midnight, and getting good deals on hotwire or something similar, but that is only if there are rooms still available. I would expect to pay $100+ a night in DCA for a hotel. Crash pads are nice, though, and about $250/month.

Not really. Glass time by itself isn't a major factor. If that glass is in a jet or turboprop, then it looks a little better.
We will 100% hire a CFI that has flown nothing but 172s with round dials (plus their 25 hours multiengine) that does well in the interview. There is nothing wrong with that at all, and they usually do very well in training.
There is nothing wrong with flying G1000 aircraft, but we don't look at that.

For all of the commuting questions, I would recommend starting by looking at AA.com (and Delta.com, United.com, etc...) to look at the number of flights between the cities and the times.
There are other "wild cards" as well, like CVG has all of the DHL flights that you can list on.
FlightStats is a good tool as well.
