On the other hand you will only be on reserve for a very short period of time, if any (DCA doesn't have any reserve lines this month, DAY didn't have any reserve lines few months ago).
Great. Thanks for the info!

It all depends. Sometimes you will get lucky with a good 4 day trip. Other times, you will get a couple legs here and there.

There is no way to tell if you will get one or the other.

How often can we change domiciles and how quickly do they go into effect?

Thanks.
I flew 86.42 hours of credit the only month I was on reserve.

they put out a notice, you bid, the notice contains the effective date, if you have the seniority you go to that base on the month the notice says.

You can bid for a new base about every 2 weeks to a month. That is about how often the bids are posted for base assignment.

They take effect on the first day of the month, usually 1-2 months later.

Upgrade bids are also every 2 weeks. Typically, there are 12-14 upgrade bids every two weeks, and class starts about a month later (usually a little less).

If you have the seniority to hold any base, you could probably change bases 12 times a year, but I haven't really looked at the bids that closely to see if it is really possible.

Last month I was Round 2 at DCA. Moved to CLT for August and was awarded LCR. Lo and behold, they made me an entire line with 12 days off and 82 hours credit. With all the upgrades there must have been plenty of flying left over. August will be the start of my 6th month and I have only had a few days of reserve and doubt I will have any more.

Knowledge Bearers

I am a fitness model by no means, but I try to maintain healthy eating habits and exercise. How difficult is it to maintain a healthy diet while on your trips?

I am sure it does not take long to get an idea of the type of food offered near your common gates. Is there enough ground time to find a decent snack to bring back to the aircraft?

Thanks for the information.

I've been in this industry for over a decade. If you want to eat healthy bring your food. Invest in a good cooler that can accommodate iPad in a dry pocket and you'll be ok. Airport food is generally not healthy - food that really is healthy is usually expensive as well. If you only get healthy and ok size meals you can easily spend 30-50 a day on your meals. Besides that, there's time to get off and get something quick. You MAKE the time. You're good to nobody if you're hungry and on poor diet.
