Yet without reserve provisions that grant a chance to break guarantee (like being able to swap reserve days for open time trips), the only benefit is less dropped trips (like the 13 hr 4-day with 85 TAFB I had last month on reserve). Maybe if rig time above credit was paid over guarantee, or something, it would help a reservist out.

While SAP has mostly been a disappointment here at RPA, I think that’s because of everyone’s misunderstanding of the feature at the PBS level and at our company. PBS already allows you to submit your specific preferences, as opposed to relying on pre-built lines that may or may not align with exactly what you need. The more relative seniority you have, and the more time you spend building and understanding your bid, the happier you will be - and in theory, the less need for SAP to begin with, with one exception - dropping below 75 hours. That is my single greatest complaint with our SAP. But that’s what the trade board is for if you’re lucky. Other than that, 15-17 days off are very possible with our trip, duty rigs and unrestricted min day credit. To each their own!

That's not good for those who like to SAP down to 65 . . . .

I agree, definitely more limiting in that regard. But still possible. Multiple times I’ve been able to straight “drop,” below 75, and even 65. Obviously not a guarantee like your SAP is though!

Default SAP Just Keeps Getting Slower...

Hours and hours of submitting requests to see them denied due to the fact that this system is not in real time. Requests pending for many hours until it finally updates. Since you can't see the open time pot in real time it is a random guess as to what is available and what isn't. Plan on spending a lot of time getting something approved.

Get 16th and 17th off. You'll be staying up all night SAPPing and it's usually worth it! Almost instant results around 3-5am. Whatever server processes SAP requests needs some upgrades for sure. Wonder if the union is aware or just isn't bother fixing the issue with "Pending"

That's what I did. I mean it works but for the people coming here they need to know it can be an all day / all night event. But in the end, it worked.

SAP worked great when PSA was a 700 pilot airline. If you put in a request at the opening minute, you'd get an approval within ten minutes or so.

Then PSA grew to around 1,100 pilots, and that same transaction started taking 4-5 hours. Then the SAP started crashing almost every month.

Finally we were able to get them to split the SAP between Captains and First Officers, and remove some of the company-placed restrictions, which cut in half the load on the system, and reduced delays significantly...though those "first minute" transactions still tended to take 1 1/2-2 hours.

Now we've added another 600 pilots. The results are predictable.

This month I placed my first transaction around 9 p.m., and got it approved at 2 a.m.

Default Reality Check

I had to move three trips. I put one trade in that evening and three trades the next day. Done. Total time during SAP 10 minutes. Taking advantage of a very rare & beneficial portion of our contract and then turning around and complaining about is astounding. Negotiating it away would make you happier? Be careful what you wish.
Respectfully, Michael 39%

What Mike said... you can pay for alerts that send you a text when a certain credit comes up on the board. I usually put some trades in initially and just wait a few hours and try again. Sitting by the computer 24/7 will just frustrate you to no other.
