Default Moving residence - how to schedule time off?

I'm on the outside looking in, and wondering how PSA in particular (or regionals in general) facilitate time off for a change in residence.

I could theoretically move to my desired base ahead of time, but that would be a bit presumptuous IMO. So say for the sake of argument I delay the move until I know I'm on property (i.e. I complete training including IOE). My plan would be to do my reserve time in the base closest to my current residence and then move several states away to be close to another base at which I know I can hold a line or at least LCR.

I don't have a lot of stuff or a family in tow but I know it will probably take me at least a couple weeks to find a new place, pack, move, and get settled. How exactly does one handle this with scheduling? I don't care if I'm not paid during this time.

You are given 4 RLD (relocation days) when you are finished with IOE and any time you change base.

I don't see being able to move in 4 days. I would probably need a couple days alone just to find a place, and that would be optimistic. Is there a way to schedule additional time off (again, without pay)?

Forgive the question -- I'm pretty clueless about the entire scheduling process. However, I've worked in other industries where I could negotiate any time off necessary (with or without pay) and just wondering if it's possible here.

Being that you can’t jumpseat until the end of IOE, are you at the mercy of straight D2 non-rev to get to your IOE Trips?

You’re in CASS and can jumpseat after you complete your PC, you can actually jumpseat PSA metal once you get your crew badge (given the captain is okay with it).

Traveling to and from IOE you are given positive space to your trip and home after your trip is over. They also give you hotels in the event they can’t get you there the same day you start or home the day you’re done.

I'm in the same boat. Looking to move this summer. Are the 4 RLD's paid?

I would suggest packing all your stuff before training, finding a crash pad, using the 4 days to get your stuff and put it in storage until you can find suitable accommodations.

4 days is what the contract gives. I would expect no more.

Once you are a Round 1 line holder you can utilize SAP to give yourself time off.

I'm not indifferent to what you are asking but pretty much everyone else has had to do the same or similar thing so not only can it be done it has been done.

Well, if there's no way to get time off for stuff like this early on then I'll either need to do stuff on my days between trips or move before I start training.

Thanks for the replies.

No, just 4 consecutive days off. You'll be guaranteed 75 hours / month while in training and on reserve.

Additionally, almost every reserve line has either two 3-day blocks off or one 4-day block. If the grid is green this becomes even more flexible, but that is hit or miss.

RLDs are not "paid time off," they adjust your schedule to ensure that you have a 4-day block of days off the. Mark them as RLD and your 24-hr per diem stops. They have zero benefit to the pilot and the later in the month they occur the better it is for you.

Keep in mind that the result of bidding a base change to be applicable takes a couple of months. So, changing your bid to a new base upon completion of sims would give you about two months with 11 days off each to find new lodging and get moved.
