Any update? How will it work and are you guys happy?

It seems that it mainly just muddied the waters and complicated things to the point that it's impossible to tell if scheduling is actually following the rules or not.

Also we still haven't been allowed to see the actual text of the new rules yet, although we are expected to abide by them... Which seems counter intuitive to me, but that's been the overall trend of these agreements the Union keeps signing without input from the pilot group.

Better yet, if the union leadership is to be believed, it's not even finalized/signed yet, so we're following new rules that haven't really been agreed upon.

If you ask around, you'll find that's because the person who wrote those rules with the company is no longer here, and some new reps were unsatisfied with the rules. What your suggesting may not be the problem you think it is.

I know that talk is cheap at APC but I do remember one regular PSA contributor making a statement that (approximately) stated the new reserve rules would be so advantageous to the pilot group that round 1 eligible pilots would be deferring for a reserve line. None of what I have read so far would make me voluntarily pick a reserve line. What say you?

So far I’ve seen people get the run around from scheduling when they’re assigned hot on their last day of their RAP. Even tho we were given on “good faith” that they won’t do that. As well as junior reservists double deadheadded to an outstation whilst senior reservists who selected first out sit and stew.

I’m hoping as we get closer to the electronics behind it being finalized it’ll start to pan out as promised. I’m keeping the faith. So far the new leadership has come through on the promises they have made.

Hahaha I've suggested that the Union reps senior enough to hold round one should bid reserve for a month or two to put their money where their mouths are. Wouldn't you know it though no one wanted to give that a shot, I feel like that says it all.

I heard from several people around last summerish that our DO had seen the proposed rules and said he would bid reserve if he was flying the line. My impression though, is that the rules have been completely rewritten.

I’m also not a reserve so I don’t have any first hand experience, but it sounds like the reserves are being treated no differently than they’ve always been treated.

Until they eliminate hot reserve, I don't think you'll see senior line holders bid reserve.

Just picture yourself as a commuter on reserve, sitting in a hotel or a crash pad, 4th day of a 5 day block, you get 2 days off, then back on reserve again. The grid is completely black because the company makes all the rules with regards to the number of reserves, so you can’t swap any reserve days around and have pretty much have no say at all in your schedule.

You figure that you’re going to be released at 5 pm tomorrow and there are 3 flights you can hop on to get back home tomorrow night. Then scheduling calls. You have a trip 2 day trip starting today. It’s a DH to CLT, an overnight to BHM, and then a couple of legs ending in PHL, followed by a double DH back to your base. You check the schedule and you will miss all flights that could get you home tomorrow by the time you’re released. You ask scheduling why aren’t you giving this to a PHL reserve. They say that there are no more reserves in PHL, but there’s no way for you to verify that. Then why isn’t this going to one of the 10 other reserves in your base with more days left. Because you’re the only person in the 2 day bucket.

Your 2 days off just got halved. But on the bright side, you get flow, in 8 years.
