Yes and no. If I were a Captain with 3-3.5 years or less to flow I’d consider staying unless my career airline absolutely had to be Delta, UA, etc...

But for senior FOs and junior CAs I still think it’s better to get out and go somewhere else, especially considering our long reserve times and relatively slow flow in comparison to Envoy and Piedmont. But that’s just my opinion and everyone is different.

Everything is going to change considerably in the next few years. Who knows, PSA may be on the cusp of further expansion and those hired now will be on the front side of another big hiring wave? Anything can happen and we still have yet to understand the, “why” of these new pay raises. I have my suspicions it is to prime us to take aircraft quicker / growth.

With any luck our potential PBS vendor looks to have some impressive pairing building software that could go a long way to improving our efficiency (it'd almost be difficult not to lol).

We've got more than enough pilots to take another 15-20 aircraft, but that's only if we start utilizing our crews more efficiently.

Time to flow is exquisitely dependent on two things

1) how many people AA takes in the flow
2) how many people take jobs elsewhere. (The lifers are basically gone)

There is absolutely no reason to believe that #1 or #2 will be stable or predictable over the next 5 years. Flow is a great insurance policy and that has a lot of value in a very unpredictable industry. But Plan A should be get a better job the regular way.

The second most irritating thing about our company to me was the inefficiency of the pairings. I pray they utilize the pairing software.

The first most irritating thing - being reassigned.

The pay was lackluster but I knew what that was when I signed on. SAP was more important to me than the highest pay rate.

I'm happy with the new pay rates, its just icing on the cake. A flow increase would have been just as good IMHO but there are not going to bleed out their own feed.

Pure speculation here, but the pay increase could have been to keep people coming in so that they could later increase the flow. Nothing happens for no reason and we’re still waiting to see why this raise came out of the blue free of charge to the pilot group.

I agree. There’s a very good chance it will be necessary, because PSA’s hiring for growth is effectively over, barring AA not renewing contracts with vendors like Skywest and Mesa.

I wouldn't say free of charge if you consider the last three or so deals made were arguably not necessarily great deals.

I do hope the flow increases though for no other reason than Piedmont flows almost as many people a month as we do IIRC and we are what ? three times bigger than they are ?!?!?!?! (too lazy to look up the actual numbers....)

Agreed. ‘Free of charge’ was bad phrasing on my part.
