Okay, I know commuting is going to always be a potential headache.

But...does anyone have in gouge on recruiting out of Dallas to PSA bases?

I commuted from DFW to DCA and CLT. It’s not bad at all 737’s and 320/321 make it for a pretty sure shot at either the jumpseat or a seat in the back, with the very rare first class.

It’s a longish flight, but it’s pretty much the length of a movie. You’ll see Deadpool 2 36 times, but it’s worth it each time.

The better question is why?

There are regionals that base in DFW. You’d likely spend the “extra” money earned on the expenses of commuting.

Drive to work if you can.

Not all regionals are equal. I mean turds are still turds, but if you can find a turd that works for you even if you have to commute then it’s worth it.

I was at Mesa in the DFW base and drove to work. That being said 12 days off is still 12 days off no matter where you live. Combined with management that was Draconian and cruel my QOL was objectively horrible.

At PSA I enjoyed the SAP as an FO and had no less that 18 days off every month. It made the commute less of a big deal and my wife enjoyed the 7-5 days off between trips. Still a turd because they’re all turds, but slightly less so.

I used to commute out of DAL and DFW, it was pretty easy, getting back to DFW can be difficult.

the check airman that did one of my upgrade trips commuted out of SLC and I flew with a guy that commuted out of Seattle soooo....

Commuting isn't that bad, in fact I'd say its one of the main reasons I left helicopters behind to come to the airlines - so that I could live wherever I want instead of within driving distance of some podunk EMS trailer parked at Podunk Intl Airpark.

Just be prepared for the day that you really are just wore slap out and just want to go home and the only flight that will get you there delays five times until it goes tits up and you get stuck overnight. Sucks but it will happen. That or your last out and back will be the trip from hell but somehow suddenly all come together just in time for you to run all the across the airport just to watch the gate agent shut the door from just outside yelling distance away...

As long as the occasional sidetrack don't get your panties in a wad its not that bad commuting.

PS - too late to edit prior post... I spent less time commuting per week with the airline than I did in my prior 9-5 life.

9-5 life I was driving a little over an hour each way so around 11 hours per week. Commuting airline job I averaged around 5 hours per week for a car drive and plane ride.
