The RDU base is going away with the Delta flying. Per the G7 threads, it'll be closed by the end of the year.

Endeavor closing MSP is more likely than opening any new base.

Based at RDU would be a godsend. I'm a 20 minute drive from the airport on a brand spanking new toll road with no traffic.
I was at PSA as an RDU commuter a few years ago. As a Round 1 lineholder it wasn’t bad. Thanks to SAP, most, if not all my trips were commutable by either air or car, but the flights are always pretty stacked and quite a few mainline guys coming out of there, surprisingly. I drove half the time just to have a guaranteed ride home, but the drive itself wasn’t bad. Only stuck in traffic once and under normal circumstances it was about three hours door to door. Unless they took it away, there’s still one or two PSA flights a day to CLT so you’d have own metal transportation available, and that always helps.

GoJet is closing RDU, but opening GSO. Reserve at PSA is incredibly bad for QOL and you will be forced back into it when you get your 1000 hours. CLT is super senior at PSA. GoJet does not do airport ready (hot reserve), PSA does. Go-jet does not have low credit trips, PSA does. PSA has the flow, that’s about it. There are tons of sacrifices for that flow.

I’ve only had to commute to CLT a few times (maybe six or seven) from Raleigh (Holly Springs actually) over the past few months. It’s a piece of cake. Drive past Jordan Lake, north on whatever that road is (421? I dunno, I’m a yankee, lol; this isn’t my native stomping ground), then west on 85.

It’s faster than flying for sure. I’m DC based for now. Even with the four hour drive, I’m better off driving in my opinion. You’re always positive space in your car...

ORF seems very doable too at 3.5 hours. I’ll switch to CLT when I can hold a line there, but for now, DC seems more junior so I should be able to move up quicker.

Just as a reminder, Round 1 for FO's in CLT is currently over 15 months and steadily climbing. So FWIW, it's a real tough life commuting to reserve during that first 15+ months.

Here is the most recent Base award seniority chart. I recommend you consider where you will be as a CA since you will be doing that at 1000 hr 121 time. DCA is also fairly commutable from RDU.
