Default Scheduling Question

Hi everyone,

I recently received a CJO from PSA. I will likely choose DCA, as it is junior and also my current home.

As a lineholder, is it possible to utilize SAP and get a “two weeks on, two weeks off” type of schedule? If so, is a particular base going to give a better chance at achieving this? I’m contemplating a corporate job with a set 16 on, 12 off versus taking my chances with SAP.

I realize there are many factors at play, but I’m curious if there are any pilots that have been able to do this type of thing.

Thanks!

Yes and no

Main point: you can do way better than 16 on, 12 off with SAP

117 duty rules limit you to 6 days working in a row. Practically at PSA you can rarely work more than 5 in a row and 4 is more practical. The best places to SAP are where you have a lot of pairings to choose from (CLT>>DC>>everywhere else) and where you have seniority (DC>>CLT)

As for the actual look of your schedule - with modest effort you can get 65 hours in three 4-day trips and have 18 days off. With two days between trips, that could give you 14 days off in a row. But more likely you'd have a 4 day on, 4 day off type schedule. Getting a week at a time is no problem. Two weeks takes more work.

If you put in the time on flica and with the help of some seniority for a strong line to set you up when SAP opens, you can easily work three 4 day trips in any configuration for your months work. 12 on 18/19 off, how does that sound compared to a corporate gig. Align that with the previous or following month schedule for what we call an extended "SAPcation". I hope you retain your flying skills cause being off for a month and traveling around the world might make you rusty.

Long live the SAP....

Keep in mind, you will have to endure a year or more of suck to get to the point. The ability of being able to SAP with that kind of schedule will take time. While you wait enjoy reserve.
