Default PSA Airlines - Upgrade and Hiring Numbers

So given 79 pilots will leave PSA in 2014 based on the 2013 attrition rate of 17%. PSA will take delivery of at least 12 CRJ-900s in 2014 requiring a minimum of 60 upgrades.

2014 minimum upgrades = 139

PSA will need to put captains in 18 CRJ-900s in 2015 by June requiring 90 upgrades. Attrition from January to June 2015 will be about 66 pilots. That's 156 additional upgrades by June 2015.

2015 minimum upgrades = 156

Basically 300 upgrades by June 2015.

By June 2015 145 pilots will have left PSA

PSA has about 500-550 line pilots right now. The most junior captain in June 2015, 17 months, has not been hired yet.

Are you assuming 5 straight months of 51 new hires in 2015?

That crystal ball you're carrying around is almost as shiny as those new airplanes.

Someone please revive this thread 16 months from now to see how "accurate" this math is.. Back when I was a 250hr cfi I used to make calculations like this to show myself how quick I would get to 1500hrs due to a contractual flow of students at our flight school..... It never worked... Not even for monthly calculations. Good luck though I'd love to see how close you are.

Keep feeding/drinking that kool aid. This guy sounds more and more like management with every breath.

So you're assuming that ALL pilot attrition is going to consist of Captains?

Haha...

It would be nice if we could get month-to-month numbers of attrition, new hires, and upgrades at PSA so we can continue to compare the actual performance to this thread.

I know Joliet, he's not management.

I don't think PSA will meet their hiring goals.

Yep all in a best case situation. I think those at PSA right now think that 200's will get parked. I know the TA says additional. But we are having trouble staffing today. And we haven't received a new or additional airplane in 8 years.
I think it's 117 that causing the problem. Airways is always the last in and first out. And we used to do the terminator then the originator. Well those days are gone. We need the extra crews. Yes they are filling the classes today. But each and every month it will get more difficult. I believe it will get to a point where it will not be possible to maintain the fleet of 200/700/900's
