135.243(a)(1) specifically says turbojet.
§ 135.243 Pilot in command qualifications. (a) No certificate holder may use a person, nor may any person serve, as pilot in command in passenger-carrying operations— (1) Of a turbojet airplane, of an airplane having a passenger-seat configuration, excluding each crewmember seat, of 10 seats or more, or of a multiengine airplane in a commuter operation as defined in part 119 of this chapter, unless that person holds an airline transport pilot certificate with appropriate category and class ratings and, if required, an appropriate type rating for that airplane. |

I have read into past pages and have not found answers to a few questions I have about PSA. Your time in offering your knowledge and opinions to some of these questions is much appreciated.
1.- What is the likely base assigned out of training for a new hire? How long to hold CLT or TYS? How long could reserve be expected in these bases ? 2.- Why is TYS a base ? (Mx) ? I dont see many PSA flights out of there. 3.- Is the preferential interview with AA now considered a flow ? Why does the company state that an FO can interview with AA after 1 yr., yet I have read in previous comments that the flow for a new hire could take 9 years? 4.- Regarding Captain upgrade. Some carriers allow a mix of 121/135 time towards the 1000 total SIC req. to upgrade. Is there a specific reg. regarding this ? or is it a case by case basis at airline discretion ? would 135 PIC time in a passenger carrying turboprop (certified for more than 10 seats) count towards the 1000 hours ? 5.- Do you guys feel that a new hire would be better off at Mesa or PSA (careers wise) ? 6.- How much can an FO at PSA expect to make during the first year if they are able to pick up a reasonable amount of extra flying ? 7.- What does the interview process at PSA consist of ? Cheers! I'll also second using aviationinterviews.com, it had everything I needed. |

That says you must have an ATP to serve as a PIC of a 135 passenger op. That link does not refer to the 121 requirements to be a PIC.

I don't know if this is a PSA thing only, but if you go on the employee site, under pilot times entry page, it says the following for 135 time.
FAR Part 135.243(a)(1) PIC time To apply 135 PIC time toward upgrade, you must have been serving as the PIC, in a passenger carrying operation, in a turbojet airplane with 10 or more passenger seats (Must be passenger seats. Do not count crewmember seats). Any other 135 PIC time does not count toward upgrade requirements. |

Just saying, they don't tell new hires this information, all they say is how fast you'll be a Captain. By the way last couple of upgrade classes have had a 50% pass rate...This company is a joke, its run by a bunch of inbred ****s from ohio, moral is at an all time low right now...

Pretty sad if this is true!! Can anyone else chime in on the validity of this claim?!?
In regards to am earlier post and response, TYS is not a mx base, so that's incorrect. No one knows why exactly it's a base but it's probably not going anywhere. |

In not so many words, it's pretty accurate. Morale is awful here and getting worse.
The company certainly wants street captains, and we will have to see what that does to the system. As it stands now, prior 121 new hires are getting an upgrade class date before they start IOE. Upgrade time is less than 5 months now. |
But the quick upgrade is gone said some people who don't even work here lol

I think that with the delayed arbitration, the uncertainty of the SSP increases, and the system wide stress of the hiring pace,I agree that morale is low. Hopefully things will work out with the arbitration and the SSP/flow will work out. If so, it should get better quickly. If not, morale will likely plummet.

The schedules are a problem too. Commutable lines are becoming fewer and the schedules in general have been very bad. I guess a new base is needed to fix some of that but still, it's an issue. Add to that the problem of them continuing to hire anti-pilot/labor management and you can where a lot of the reasons for the low morale comes from.
My lines haven't been too bad, but I don't commute, so I can't complain. I can see it being an issue, however. Many lines are down right terrible. I would expect a whole bunch of announcements in the next few weeks. Street captains will likely be first, but we will see. They will likely bombarded us with new stuff, and we will need to be very careful to ensure that when the dust settles that we are better off than we are now. |
