Comair TA
Comair guys, what is the overall attitude toward the new TA? I realize that it will be next monday before the vote is announced, but what is the word on the line about the TA? Is it going to pass?

My guess is it will pass. I haven't heard as much outrage with this TA as with last years voided LOA that passed by 50%+6 votes. The attiude of the peopel I have talked to is, it is better than the imposed company terms, and that the BK claim for the pilots may be worth as much or more than the company saved. How I gauge it may not be accurate. I probably only come in direct contact with less than 1.5%(that would be 24 pilots out of 1600ish) of the pilot group on a busy month. That isn't a very good sampling to take a read off of. It stinks to give up an money and I'm not happy about it, but i feel it is better than the alternative. |
Ta
I see no reason why it wouldn't pass, some people are quite upset over it and the way that the settlment might be divied up but as the previous guy said it is better than the imposed contract. We will see what happens this weekend eh?

well, to be honest it is a POS. I have been here at comair since 04/20/98, I have only voted in favor of 1 agreement and that was the one that got us of the street in 01. The BR claim is 82.5 mill. However, that doesnt mean any more then the paper it is written on, because, the claim is for sale. Most claims get sold and NEVER for the amt of the claim, so I see our claim getting 50 to 60 cents on the dollar or about 41.25 mil. to be inserted into our 401 k's at some point. Be aware, comair is not the place to be if you want to make a living being a pilot, trust me...
|
Just out of curiosity - 41.25 mil divided by 1600 pilots = $25,800 in a lump sum payment, in exchange for an average pay cut of what? If the average pilot makes $55000 or something like that, it would have to be a pretty big pay cut to make it seem like it wasn't worth it some how. So why would this not be a big win for the Comair guys?

would you rather have the company imposed rates? I think the new contract will pass... because of the court's ruling there isn't much else that can be done

Good luck. G-Dog |
Like most of the folks have stated, I have not heard much in the way of outrage over this TA. I think it's a real POS, especially considering how we got to this point. Yes, the highest paycut is 13%, then loss off the contribution plan, and some of the work rules. The bk claim will not be divided up evenly, there should be a senority system to it. At 4 years, I would be lucky if saw $10,000-$15,000...which is better than nothing.
I STILL SAY NO!!!! |
I would rather take my chances after BR, the claim isn't going to be anything. I already voted NO
|
INAV8OR - Please take it easy on the new guy, but why would you guys vote down 82.5 million in claims and the existing deal to work under the imposed (and I assume worse) terms?

Entitlement?
After a company goes into bankruptcy to restructure, you should still be on not only the pre-bancruptcy pay scale, but the pre 9-11 one as well??? How does that work exactly? This is all starting to sound a little bit like entitlement to me. Pay before 9-11 was very high. Not saying that pilots do not deserve it, but take the good when you can get it and expect the bad to be around the corner...especially in an industry that mirrors the economy as closely as ours does. As the industry starts to come back around, which it seems like it is, negotiations can swing back into the favor of the employees, but expecting a company on the verge of, or actually in bankruptcy to honor a pre bankruptcy contract is a little bit narrow minded and self righteous if you ask me. Not siding with the company completely, but when you back them into a corner, you may not like what you get out of it. Hate my comments, as I am sure you will, but all of this talk seems a little greedy to me.

Imposed contract i am looking at 5.16 dollars an hour cut. With the TA, I'm looking at a $2.78 an hour cut. At 75 hours a month that is the difference between losing $387 a month and $208.5 a month. So about a 46% reduction in my paycut between.
Saving a $178.50 a month isn't much, but that could be the difference in someone being able to keep a car or apartment. If they were to impose and it took ONLY 2 years to negotiate a new contract, I would lose a minimum of 4300 dollars. (That isn't counting the year of longevity is gained back with the TA right away. So it is probably closer to 5000dollars lost.) So whatever got negotiated from the imposed terms would have to be pretty good to restore the 4300 I lost over the 2 years of negotiations. I just don't have to see that happening. My vote was cast a couple days ago. |
as a response to 82.5 mil claim. When the claim is sold for whatever amount certainly not 82.5 mil. we have no idea on how it is going to be divided. I should be at a rate of 80.41 per hour, I am frozen at 72.40, the new TA puts me at 66.79 and the imposed puts me at 65.65, minus some other things insurance wise. So all in all it is a 15% pay cut for a company that made 50 million dollars. Just because everyone else out there is too afraid to stand up and stop this BS, doesn't mean I should take a pay cut. Now for those of you that want to work for poor wages and conditions feel free to work in a place like that. I am taking a stand and no longer am going to be raped of my dignity...and professionalism..SO MR CHARTER, DO YOU THINK I SHOULD ROLL OVER AND TAKE THIS CUT? IF SO I HOPE I DONT SEE YOU AT COMAIR.

Also in reagerds to this bk claim...United had one of these in their restructured contract. Guess what....they got a fraction (not a good fraction either) of the advertised price, and I believe they are still tied up in legal battles over the mess. NOTHING has been paid. For any other Comair person out there...do not vote for this because of the bk claim. Vote as if the claim is not even there!
I would much rather go for the imposed terms (force their hand, force them to do this) and start section 6 once we exit bk, than vote in a TA because it was the "better option". The situation sux, but I'm tired of dealing with the bs of management not running the airline. |
