I know the OP said he wanted to travel light but I always pack these two items for extra security:

A doorstop for when the room has a door to the adjoining room and a bicycle lock to secure my rollerboard in the overhead. And yes, some idiot actually took my rollerboard off of the plane once.

If they get through the deadbolt, I'm sure the doorstop will foil them. Paranoid much?

The bike lock thing is actually a great idea, I hadn't thought of that before. I have a bunch of those red cable locks that they give you when you when you buy a new firearm laying around, I think I may have a use for them now.


I got one of these with my clothing allowance a couple of months ago. So far it's worked pretty well. The cooler compartment is a little on the narrow side but it is tall and holds about as much as a standard lunch cube. If I pack lunch meats/salads and keep the bread in a separate place I can pack for a 3-4 day trip. Also, I am a commuter and I haven't found a seat I couldn't fit this bag completely under. It will use any spare leg room but if you need it will fit under the seat.

As far as my dirty clothes, I just use a kitchen size garbage bag. Has worked great so far...

Only once?! Have mine taken off the plane at least once a year. I add another "crew" tag to it each time to celebrate. It looks like a gypsy bag with so many "crew", "not yours!", "wrong one!", etc tags on it in white, red, yellow and black. Once it ended up in MCO baggage claim while I was on a 3 hr sit in RDU. I do try to check on it after every leg.

LOL...na, wouldn't stop someone that's determined to get in. Only hope they make enough noise to wake my a$$ up.
