Street hire vs better company question

Ok first off lets put the disclaimer out there, been in the regional world for a while so i know all about the pains, so lets try and keep the venting and bashing to a minimum, we are all playing the regional game together and with the same end game in sight.

I currently work for a regional that the qol isnt bad, problem is i transistioned into an airframe that is very sr on the caption side, no possibility in upgrading withing probly 6-8 years at best, not exadurating, i have 5000 tt and 2000 121. There are a mutitude of companies i can street hire at, trans states, gojets, piedmont, ect, just like most my goal is 1000 tpic to be competitive, should i take the street hire route or say go with a better company as an fo and hope for a fast upgrade, im well aware of the pitfalls of street hire, ie jr forever, resentment ect.

Firstly that 1000tpic thing is dead. Seems like you either need 5000pic or they don't want you to be 121Ca at all because you'll bail.

In my experience I've seen that street CAs only last at their airline not more than 12 months, maybe two years if that. Sometimes they get what they want out of it but most of the time they settle with any other company, good or bad, because they can't take their qol of street CA anymore. That's the best answer your going to get, it's a crapshoot.

It depends on where you want to go, if it's Spirit or Frontier you don't need PiC. If it's the others you need thousands of PIC unless you know someone or are a minority. I'd go for QOL and let the job come to you.

Don't chase the upgrade!!!
There's a reason it's so short. For the same reason they pay nearly 300k to fly a CRJ in China.

I'd stay put. Unless you have some kind of serious hook up that will get you an interview after you reach the 1,000 PIC mark just enjoy the QOL. 1,000 hrs of PIC isn't what makes you competitive. It's advanced degrees, high GPA, tons of volunteer work, former military, female/minority, job fairs, and of course who you know. The 1,000 PIC deal isn't gonna be the magical thing that tips the scale unless you have a few of these other items that I listed. Be happy, be content for now, and enjoy life buddy. Don't settle, but be happy and enjoy the ride.

Put your app in everywhere thats a higher step than a regional. I know Kalitta likes TPIC, but with your hours they may give you a call. TPIC is nice, and I disagree with those that say its not needed. However, if you get the job without it, who cares?

Jet Jockey 00 03-17-2017 01:10 AM

I disagree. He already has 5000 TT. Getting 1000 TPIC could get him picked up at a Major. They still require it these days. He needs PIC hours not more FO time. Command time is not what it once was but it's not dead just yet.

Nothing he can do about advanced degrees or higher GPA but he can get PIC hours and go to job fairs. There are some FOs getting picked up by majors but still the majority have PIC time.
