Trouble landing
 

I am having a tough time landing the CRJ 200 sim, any help?

well one its a sim, two you are sitting too high ;) promise

Be on speed. Five knots too much is too much. Reduce power at 100 feet in order to have it at idle thrust at 50. Stay on centerline. Fight for it.

I tend to float and drift off centerline. Do i keep it on my left knee?

this really is the biggest problem with guys trying to learn how to land the crj. its all about the point of view. of course i am sure that the fed ex guys that jumpseat on us all the time feel like we are going straight down into the ground on our approaches. 3 degrees nose down is weird enough for them, but then the sit high in the jump seat and all they see is ground coming in for landing!!! :)

thats funny I noticed that about the CRJ looks like you guys are crash landing, I like the EMB-145 kinda hangs there with the nose-up :), The SAAB landed pretty flat, hell I think I had maybe one or two nice landings in the the old SAABAROOWSKI. The 145 is eay to land, gotta love that trailing link gear


PS. Anybody that had a nasty comment about my landing, I would usually tell em "Hey what do you expect for 19 bucks an hr" :)

I look at it half full. I would have said, after that landing, I'm worth 60 bucks and hour! The saab is a moody beast to land! :-)

If you think the sim is tough to land, just wait until you're on OE.... It's easy to let the plane drift to either side of the centerline.

If you're talking about staying centerline, i'd assume you're talking about a x-wind landing. The RJ can be tricky to land in x-wind, and there's soooo many ways to land this sucker in x-wind. Use the aileron to control centerline while you're on approach (crabbing), that gives you an idea how much rudder you need to kick when the time comes. Here's the kicker: Some people like to straighten the nose about 100', some 10', depends how "skilled" you are. This plane will not perform well in side-slip situation, FYI... I noticed the CRJ will drop the wing on the windward side when you kick the rudder, especially in windy condition, so be prepared for that as well. Well, all the above happens within 2 sec. before the mains touched down... I guess that's why you'll get paid some 20 bucks an hour...

I wouldn't worry much about the sim, as there's no good landing in the sim, and the only people you'll impress is the sim instructor, but on the line, the 18 year old bimbo sitting in the back will give you a pat on the back if you grease one:)

I can't land it in the sim worth a crap either. Don't worry about flaring, you just let it hit. It seems weird at first but that's what you gotta do. FWIW I floated on my probationary PC in the sim as well, way past the touchdown zone. They guy got upset but I was like "WTF do you want me to do???". LOL. Don't worry about it. The CRJ-200 is one heck of a hard plane to land, even "by the book". If you don't flare at all it'll hit the nose wheel, if you do it too much you can kiss 5000' of runway goodbye.
